Fall has arrived — that golden stretch between iced coffee and hot cocoa season — when the days grow shorter, the playlists get moodier, and every snack somehow tastes a little better. Maybe it’s the crisp air. Maybe it’s the cinnamon. Or maybe it’s because we’ve learned to savor life’s simple pleasures, fully and consciously — snacks included.

At our last Sober Curator contributor meeting, we ran an unofficial “Snack Census” to see what fuels our crew during those long creative sessions, late-night writing bursts, road trips and lazy Sunday scrolls. The results? A delightful mix of comfort, nostalgia, and a few surprisingly fancy favorites.

Because one thing’s for sure — when you’re living your best sober life, snacks are more than munchies. They’re a mood.

🍫 Sweet Tooth Confessions: Little Treats, Big Joy

When it comes to sweets, our contributors are all about balance — a mix of playful, nostalgic, and downright delicious.

Krysty keeps it classic with Swedish Fish, while Sarah brings the heat with Hot Tamales, proving that spicy and sweet isn’t just for mocktails. Anne Marie goes full Trader Joe’s with chocolate-covered pretzels, the ultimate salty-sweet combo for sweater weather.

For Bill, ice cream is non-negotiable. “Because recovery doesn’t mean giving up indulgence — it means enjoying it fully.” Meanwhile, Rhetta opts for dark chocolate by XO, showing that refined and rich can still be sugar-free.

Amy’s pick — orange mint Lifesavers — wins for originality (“I’m unwrapping one as we speak,” she laughed), while Tamar can’t resist chocolate chip cookies. Analisa is going all in on pancakes and Stephen and Ryan both reached for jelly beans, which may officially make “colorful candy” the unofficial mascot of sober joy. Ryan specifically calls out Starburst Jelly Beans.

✨ Forget guilty pleasures. These are gratitude pleasures — the tiny, intentional treats that remind us how sweet sober life can be.

🧂 Salty & Satisfied: The Crunch Heard ’Round the Zoom

The savory crowd made just as strong a showing. Megan and Staci both love a good chip situation — blue corn and tortilla varieties, respectively — while Tamar stays loyal to Miss Vickie’s Original, the chip equivalent of a cozy cable-knit sweater.

Rhetta’s go-to is Triscuits (“because they make me feel like a grown-up snacker”), and Stephen’s pick — Tokyo Mix rice crackers — adds a global twist. Analisa gets bonus points for pairing her chips and homemade mango salsa with style, and Bill and Krysty keep things classic with potato chips, the universal comfort crunch.

Sarah’s pick deserves a chef’s kiss: pretzels with whipped cream cheese — a combo no one saw coming but everyone now wants to try. Ryan is going old-school Doritos and Anne Marie’s inner child is snackin’ on Goldfish.

🥤 Sip Happens: Sparkles, Sips & Steady Hydration

No sober snack session is complete without something to sip. Rhetta brings the bubbles with Spindrift Mandarin Orange, while Anne Marie keeps things classy with Topo Chico. Carolyn is sipping Poppi Rose Red and Lane won’t stop talking about Domo. Bill and Ryan are both Team Diet Dr. Pepper, and Sarah and Tamar side with the Coke Zero / Diet Coke fan club.

Coffee, however, reigns supreme — Analisa, Megan, Stephen, and Staci all listed it as their go-to drink. Because let’s be honest: caffeine is the unofficial love language of The Sober Curator.

💡 Sober Curator Fun fact: October is National Non-Alcoholic Beverage Month, which makes this the perfect time to discover a new mocktail, stock up on sparkling sodas, or revisit your relationship with ritual itself. Make sure to check out our HAPPY EVERY HOUR section for all kinds of ideas that you can sip this fall season.

📺 Snackflix & Chill: What We’re Watching, Reading & Listening To

👀What We’re Watching:

When the snacks come out, so do the stories. Krysty’s current binge? Gilmore Girls, the most autumnal show in history. Anne Marie recommends Dark Winds, while Bill is revisiting The Wire (snack pairing suggestion: kettle corn and a blanket). Analisa just watched Timestalker (2024) and Megan seems to be obsessed with The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Dr. Sarah recently caught the Charlie Sheen documentary (“a fascinating look at fame and fallout” – review coming soon!), and Rhetta is watching The Ballad of Wallis Island. Ryan is in a Sinners phase, while Anne Marie is all about Dark Winds. Stephen is watching Long Way Home and Staci has ADHD and can’t decide what to watch, so she continues to doom scroll on TikTok. Carolyn is sipping her Poppi and LOLing at Platonic, while Tamar and Lane are catching up with shows we talked about earlier this year. (Better Sister and The Bear)

🎧What We’re Listening To:

Podcast picks range from the clever to the cozy: Krysty is hooked on Maintenance Phase, Rhetta on Criminal, Bill on WTF with Marc Maron, Anne Marie on Good Hang with Amy Poehler, and Tamar (no surprise here) on The Sober Curator. Meanwhile, Megan is educating herself with TDLR by Wealthsimple and Stephen is binging Blamo!. Ryan is doing a deep dive with Las Culturistas and Sarah is digging Ask Iliza Anything.

📚What We’re Reading:

For bookworms, Krysty recommends The Seedkeeper, Anne Marie finds inspiration in Beauty by John O’Donohue, and Stephen dove into Make It Ours: The Biography of Virgil Abloh. Sarah’s favorite title wins for thematic alignment — How to Grow an Addict. (Review coming soon!) Bill listened to Charlie Sheen (The Book on Sheen) on Audible and Ryan is reading Uneducated.

✨ Think of this as your sober snack starter pack — a handful of comfort shows, a splash of sparkling water, and a cozy book you’ll actually remember reading in the morning. If you are looking for things to watch, read, or listen to, make sure to visit our SOBER ENTERTAINMENT channel on the regular, as we are updating reviews faster than your sponsor replying ‘call me.’

🧡 Cozy Closing: Savor the Season

If there’s one thing our snack survey confirmed, it’s this: we take our snacks seriously — but not ourselves. From candy cravings to caffeine devotion, every choice reflects the same truth: recovery is full of flavor.

So this fall, grab your favorite mug, cue up your comfort show, and unwrap something that makes you smile. Because sober or not, everyone deserves a little something sweet, salty, or sparkling to celebrate the season.

✨ In sobriety, the smallest rituals — even a late-night handful of pretzels — can feel like self-care.
