If you know Dopey, you already get it.
The podcast has built one of the most fiercely loyal audiences in recovery media by doing something most recovery content refuses to do: tell the truth and make it funny. Dark, messy, deeply human funny. And now that same energy is coming off headphones and hitting a live stage in Los Angeles.
Dopeywood Comedy 2026 goes down at The Comedy Store on April 12 at 7:00 PM, with every dollar benefiting The Dopey Foundation, the nonprofit behind the show.
The lineup? Not a warm-up act in sight.
Marc Maron, Margaret Cho, Bobby Lee, and More
Headlining the night is Marc Maron, whose podcast WTF has racked up over 55 million listens a year and put him in the same room as everyone from Robin Williams to Barack Obama. You’ve also seen him in GLOW, Joker, and Respect. He’s not exactly playing small rooms these days, which makes this one feel special.
Margaret Cho is on the bill, and honestly? That’s a whole headline on its own. Five-time Grammy and Emmy nominee. Decades of breaking barriers in comedy. Her one-woman show I’m the One That I Want is still required viewing. If you’ve ever felt like an outsider, Margaret Cho has been speaking your language longer than most people have been paying attention.
Bobby Lee rounds out the headliners, best known for his years on MADtv, Pineapple Express, and his podcasts TigerBelly and Bad Friends, which have their own cult following.
Also taking the stage: Darrell Hammond, Zach Noe Towers, Ali Macofsky, and Sam Miller (one of my personal favs), whose sobriety story we had the pleasure of featuring right here on The Sober Curator.
Laughing as a Survival Skill
Here’s the thing about recovery that gets glossed over in most media: humor has always been one of the first things sober people rediscover. Not polished, everything-is-great humor. The kind that comes from having been through some stuff and lived to talk about it. The kind where the darkest parts of the story get the biggest laughs because everyone in the room has a version of it.
That’s Dopey’s whole deal. And Dopeywood puts that in a room full of people who just get it, no explanation required.
If you’ve never listened to Dopey, go do that immediately. Then come back and buy your ticket.
