Let’s get that CLEAR ICE, Ice Baby! Have you ever boiled water or used distilled H20 and noticed you STILL have cloudy ice? This week on, Just A Merry Mocktail Monday, let’s chat clear ice and how ‘make’ it!
🧊First, let’s talk about the scientific reasoning for how ice gets cloudy.
When water freezes, it pushes all the impurities inwards, trapping the minerals and air bubbles in the center. So, how to freeze water without trapping stuff during the freezing process?
🧊You’ll need a thermos or cooler to place your water (and hopefully you’ll have enough room in your freezer for your vessel.) This will ensure the water freezes from the top to the bottom.
🧊 If you are creating a giant slab of ice, just pour your water into your freezing container and remove it before the entire vessel freezes. Since the ice in this container will be pushing the impurities down, leaving a bit of water at the bottom will be the location for the unwanted cloudiness. Also, this will help with removing the slab by just turning your cooler upside-down, and releasing the slab. That’s when you’ll carefully use a serrated knife and a mallet to cut the ice block into sizes appropriate for your glassware.
🧊 Not into using knives? (No Judgement, Neither am I.) I used a silicone mold. Make sure to puncture the bottom to make sure the water has an easy-access way to dump the impurities. (If only red flags worked that way, my dating life would probably be more successful)
🧊 TA-DA!
Voila! You’ll have CRYSTAL CLEAR ICE to make that Mocktail Game to the Next Level. It’s a bit of work, but if you’re interested in trying it out pleeeeeease tag me @tonix.mocktails and @thesobercurator! I’d love to see your ice-capades!
Until Next Week!!
To Your Health!
