Unwifeable, by Mandy Stadtmiller, is a memoir you will not be able to put down. It is a story about a single gal who comes to the big city, and the big city eats her alive. Those of you obsessed with Sex & the City must add Unwifeable to your home sober library immediately, if not sooner. Provocative, fearless, and dizzyingly uncensored, Mandy spills every secret she knows about dating, networking, comedy, celebrity, media, psychology, relationships, addiction, and the quest to find one’s true nature. She takes readers behind the scenes (and name names) as she relays her utterly addictive journey.
Sober Curator Pro Tip: When you purchase this book, buy yourself a brand-new pink highlighter. You can thank me later.
I lost track of how many times I dog-eared a page corner down to mark the page or highlighted (in pink) something that I identified within this book. Although my life was not quite as glamorous as Mandy’s, her story is very relatable. I’m ready to start campaigning for Netflix, Hulu, Apple+, or anyone else who will listen to make this story into a movie or a TV series. It’s too raw and honest to only live on a paper page.
Real-life Sex & the City
From her tampon exorcism at the office to her plentiful sexual escapades while living the Page Six lifestyle, you will cheer for Mandy quite early on in the book. If you are easily triggered or not down with the sexy talk, then stop reading this post right now. This isn’t the book for you.
But for you dirty, badass girls who desperately chased lovers down at every swanky dive bar you could find, this book is for you. And you know who you are, and you know what your life used to be life. Mandy’s was all of that and so much more.
Mandy’s story is relatable and heartbreaking. This book chronicles her fearless attempts at life for nearly a decade in the Post, xoJane, and New York magazine. She sets off to conquer a city and an industry and find true love, but in the end, what she really finds is herself. Follow her on Instagram, and you will quickly see that life is still life on life’s terms.
Are you a lover of pop culture, including celebrity gossip and Sex & the City-type storylines? Go on and #ADDTOCART! If you are looking for an authentic and raw story about someone coming to grips with abuse and dysfunction, this is hands down the book for you.
