Help Us End Ableism.
When my son Max was born the geneticist said to me “You know there’s a pill you could have taken for that.”
My son Max is an individual who happens to have Down syndrome. People look at him and think they know who he is, believe he has no value in the world, or diminish his chances by not giving him opportunities to show them what he can do.
THAT is Ableism.
He is now 14 years old and surfing, skateboarding, making art, taking photos with vintage film cameras, loves science and is an epic drummer.
We’ve started making art together and we’ve created this project to spread awareness of Ableism and shift people’s understanding that all people have value.
Connection is everything.
Most of us in recovery have felt that feeling, of being treated as less than based on stereotypes or societies measuring system of who is important and who isn’t. This project is aiming to break that down step by step. As a Woman with 36 years of sobriety, I know full well what it’s like to be judged and to have people decide things about me before getting to know me. But what Max has to endure is so much more challenging. People see his face and the characteristics of Down syndrome and immediately he is put into a category in people’s minds. Even thinking that he is an “Angel” is a stereotype that limits him. He has a range of feelings and capabilities just like the rest of us. We all need to lean in and get to know people for who they are. Connection is everything.

We’re selling 8.5×11″ prints for $100.00 to spread the word and bring joy into the hearts and homes around the globe. Larger sizes will be available soon. The more we sell the more we can create. We’d be touched for any of you who would like to be involved by purchasing a print. 50% of all profits goes to Max so he can learn the beauty of entrepreneurship and how powerful it can be to use your talents as a vehicle for change.
