Meet Sober Curator Contributor Ashley Sunderland
Based in the Twin Cities, Ashley Sunderland has been a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor since 2019, a career she pursued after her own journey to sobriety. She provides compassionate, solution-focused counseling and is deeply committed to advocacy, education, and the recovery community.
With a background in restaurant, hospitality, and specialty coffee, Ashley has re-entered the beverage industry with a focus on the non-alcoholic sector. She champions making alcohol-free choices both normal and celebrated, advocating for inclusivity and wellness in social settings. Her vision: a world where sophisticated non-alcoholic beverages are as common and valued as their alcoholic counterparts.

Ashley recently earned her AFNA™ Beer Certification through the AFicioNAdo™ Certification Program—the first professional-level AFNA™ training platform developed by industry experts. This credential reflects her expertise in AFNA™ beer, including ingredients, sensory analysis, production, handling, and market trends.
She is also enrolled in Sans Bar Academy, led by Chris Marshall, where she’s learning to develop and operate alcohol-free pop-up bars and brands, covering concept creation, branding, marketing, and operations.
At The Sober Curator, Ashley shares her knowledge and personal insights, providing valuable zero-proof lifestyle content that supports making recovery visible, accessible, and celebrated.

Bold North Recovery: Minnesota’s #1 Peer Recovery Workforce Development Organization. Bold North Recovery is a training and education organization. Their focus is on building, growing, and sustaining the substance use disorder peer recovery workforce in Minnesota and beyond.
Minnesota 2-1-1: United Way 2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember, three-digit number that families and individuals in Minnesota can call to obtain free and confidential information on health and human services. 2-1-1 call centers are staffed 24/7 by trained Community Resource Specialists who quickly assess needs and refer callers to the help that they seek.
Minnesota Recovery Connection: Their mission is to strengthen the recovery community through peer-to-peer support services, public education, and advocacy.
Minnesota Hope Dealers: Provides a supportive community environment for those seeking long-term recovery.
Minnesota Prevention & Recovery Alliance: Minnesota Prevention and Recovery Alliance (MnPRA) is an emerging Recovery Community Organization (RCO). Established in 2021 by Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge (MnTC) employees, MnPRA is secular and supports all pathways to recovery, ensuring that every community in Minnesota has equal and equitable access to both prevention and recovery resources.
Minnesota Recovery Connection: MRC is a member organization of Faces & Voices Association of Recovery Community Organizations (ARCO). ARCO unites and supports the growing network of local, regional, and statewide recovery community organizations (RCOs).
NAMI Minnesota: Local in-person and online meeting information. NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults with mental illnesses and their families.
Recovery Café Frogtown Facebook: Recovery Cafe Frogtown is a healing community for those traumatized by addiction, homelessness, and mental health challenges.
Recovery Dharma Twin Cities (public Facebook page): Local in-person and online Recovery Dharma meeting information. Recovery Dharma offers an approach to recovery based on Buddhist principles that is peer-led and non-theistic. They welcome all those who wish to pursue recovery as part of their community.
