Mental Health Awareness Month called. It wants you to find 19 words.

This month’s Sober Search is packed with the wellness terms, brain chemicals, recovery practices, and self-care essentials that make sober life actually work. Not the Instagram version of wellness where someone lights a candle and calls it healing. The real version. The one that involves therapy, sweat, setting boundaries, and occasionally ugly crying in your car before going inside and being fine.

All 19 of those words are hiding in a 15×15 grid. Some are sitting right there in plain sight. Others are backwards, diagonal, or tucked into corners specifically designed to make you question your eyesight.

    What You’re Looking For

Nineteen words. All wellness and mental health themed. Here’s what we’ll tell you: the neurotransmitter your brain learned to produce on its own is in there. The four-letter trauma therapy acronym everyone is talking about is in there. TSC’s fitness column that proves you don’t need a pre-workout buzz is in there. And the nine-letter word that describes what sobriety builds every single day? Definitely in there.

We won’t tell you which direction they’re going. That’s your job.

    How to Play

Play Online: Play Sober Search right here → Click and drag across letters to select a word. Works on desktop and mobile. Found words light up in blue and cross off your list. There’s even a hint button if you get stuck (no shame).

Print and Play: Download the free printable PDF below. White background, easy on the ink, plenty of room to circle words with reckless enthusiasm.

    DOWNLOAD THE PRINTABLE PUZZLE →

    The Hints

Every word in this month’s Sober Search comes with a hint written in full TSC voice. You can reveal them in the interactive version by clicking “NEED A HINT?” Here are a few to get you started:

“The simplest tool in recovery. In through the nose. Out through the mouth.” Seven letters. You probably did it three times today without thinking about it. Or maybe you should be doing it more.

“Not just face masks and bubble baths. Sometimes it means saying no.” Eight letters. Two words. The most misunderstood concept in modern wellness.

“The ability to bounce back. Sobriety builds this muscle every single day.” Ten letters. And every single one of them was earned.

“What your body did first. What your mind keeps doing every day after.” Five letters. Short word. Long process.

    Where’s the Answer Key?

BACKSTAGE exclusive. Like the crossword answer key, the Sober Search answer key lives inside The Sober Curator’s private cultural membership.

    The May Puzzle Pack

Sober Search is one half of this month’s Puzzle Pack. The other half is Clued In, our monthly crossword, which also dropped with the Body, Mind, and Sober Soul theme. Thirteen crossword clues covering cortisol, codependency, Pilates, sober dating, and more.

The two puzzles share the same theme but use completely different words. No overlap. No spoilers. Just 32 total wellness terms across two grids designed to keep your sober brain sharp.

PLAY THIS MONTH’S CLUED IN →

    Why This Theme Matters

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we don’t think that should be limited to Instagram infographics and corporate HR emails. Mental health is recovery. Recovery is mental health. The words hiding in this grid aren’t vocabulary words. They’re the actual tools and concepts that keep a lot of us alive, present, and functioning.

THERAPY is in this puzzle because therapy works. RESILIENCE is in this puzzle because you built it. BREATHE is in this puzzle because sometimes that’s all you can do, and that’s enough.

Find the words. Remember why they matter.

    What’s Next

June’s Sober Search theme is Sober Pop Culture Showdown. Sober celebrity names, recovery TV shows, and entertainment references hiding in the grid. If you’ve ever binge-watched a show about addiction and felt personally called out, next month’s puzzle is for you.

New puzzles drop the first of every month. Subscribe to The Sober Sip so you never miss one.

    Sober Game Night

TSC GAME ROOM: You got sober. You got your brain back. You got your Friday nights back. Now what do you do with them?

    You play.

Welcome to The Game Room, The Sober Curator’s home for everything games, puzzles, and sober entertainment. This is where crosswords meet board games, word searches meet Mahjong nights, and one very sparkly Monopoly parody proves that recovery is the ultimate power move.

Grab some friends. Pull up a chair. Grab a mocktail. Let’s play.

A Disco Ball is Hundreds of Pieces of Broken Glass, Put Together to Make a Magical Ball of Light. You are NOT Broken, Friend. You are a DISCO BALL!

    Resources Are Available

If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulties surrounding alcoholism, addiction, or mental illness, please reach out and ask for help. People everywhere can and want to help; you just have to know where to look. And continue to look until you find what works for you. Click here for a list of regional and national resources.

    What is Sober Search?

Sober Search is The Sober Curator’s monthly word search puzzle. Every month we hide 19 words inside a 15×15 grid tied to a different theme in sober culture. It lives inside The Game Room alongside Clued In, our monthly crossword.

    What’s this month’s theme?

May’s theme is “Body, Mind, and Sober Soul.” Nineteen hidden words covering therapy, self-care, brain chemistry, fitness, and the recovery practices that keep sober life running. It drops during Mental Health Awareness Month because wellness isn’t a trend for us. It’s the whole point.

    How do I play online?

Head to the Sober Search puzzle page and click and drag across letters to highlight a word. Here’s the rundown:

    • Click and drag across letters in any direction to select a word
    • Found words light up in blue and cross off the word list
    • NEED A HINT? Click to expand clues for every hidden word
    • REVEAL ALL shows where every word is hiding
    • RESET clears your progress
    • Works on desktop (click and drag) and mobile (touch and drag)

    What directions can words go?

All of them. Horizontal left to right, horizontal right to left, vertical top to bottom, vertical bottom to top, and all four diagonals. Some words are obvious. Others are backwards and diagonal because we enjoy watching you squint.

    Can I print it?

Yes. Every issue comes with a free downloadable PDF designed for printing. White background, clean grid, easy on your ink. Click the download button on the puzzle page.

    Where is the answer key?

The answer key is available exclusively inside BACKSTAGE, The Sober Curator’s private cultural membership. BACKSTAGE members get answer keys for both Sober Search and Clued In every month.

    Is Sober Search free?

Always. Play it online, download the PDF, print 50 copies for your next sober event. The only thing behind BACKSTAGE is the answer key.

How is this different from Clued In?

Clued In is a crossword. Sober Search is a word search. Both share the same monthly theme but hide completely different words. Zero overlap. You can play both without spoiling either one.

How many words am I looking for?

Nineteen. The word list is displayed next to the grid, and every word crosses off when you find it. The progress counter at the bottom tracks how many you’ve found.

I’m stuck. What do I do?

    1. Click “NEED A HINT?” to reveal clues for every hidden word. The hints are written in TSC voice, so they’re actually fun to read.
    2. Start with the longest words. They’re easier to spot because they take up more space.
    3. Look for unusual letter combinations. If you see a Q, X, or Z, there’s probably a word running through it.
    4. Scan the edges. Words love to start or end at the border of the grid.
    5. REVEAL ALL exists. Nobody is keeping score. (Yet.)

    Can I share it?

Screenshot your completed grid, tag us @thesobercurator on any platform. If you found all 19 words without using hints, that’s a flex worth posting. Time yourself and share your solve time for bonus points.

Can I bring this to a sober event?

Yes, and we love that. Download the printable PDF and bring copies. Word searches are perfect for sober game nights, recovery meetings, retreats, or anywhere people could use a low-pressure activity. If you want a custom word search for your event, email thesobercurator@gmail.com.

I have a word or theme idea.

Email thesobercurator@gmail.com with “SOBER SEARCH” in the subject line. Tell us the word, why it matters, and what theme it fits. If we use it, you get a shoutout.

    Will there be an archive?

Yes. Past issues live in The Game Room so you can go back and play ones you missed. We’re building a whole library of sober brain workouts.

When does the next puzzle drop?

First of every month. June’s theme is the Sober Pop Culture Showdown. Subscribe to The Sober Sip so you never miss it.

    Something isn’t working.

Email thesobercurator@gmail.com or DM us @thesobercurator on Instagram. We want this to work on every device and browser.
