    How We Make Money

    The Sober Curator is an independent media company. Producing articles, podcasts, guides, and events costs real money, and we earn it in five ways. Each one is disclosed where it appears, not just here.

    Affiliate links

    Some links on the Site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase or booking, we may earn a commission. The price you pay is the same either way.

    As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

    We participate in the following affiliate and creator programs, among others:

    • Awin (which manages programs for individual brands we cover, including ripple+)

    • Impact (which manages programs for individual brands we cover, including Füm)

    • Tripaneer, which pays a referral fee on retreat and wellness-travel bookings

    • eBay Partner Network

    • FlexOffers

    Affiliate links are labeled “(paid link)” or with similar wording, and every article that contains them carries a disclosure at the top of the post. We only link to products and experiences we have tried, researched, or genuinely want in our own alcohol-free lives. Commissions never influence what we say about a product, and we do not accept payment in exchange for a positive review.

    Some articles are paid for by a brand. Those posts are labeled “Sponsored” at the top, and the sponsor is named. Sponsors do not approve, edit, or veto our opinions. If we do not like something, we say so, or we do not publish.

    Gifted products

    Brands sometimes send us products at no cost so we can try them. When a review or feature involves a gifted product, we say so in the post. Receiving a free product does not guarantee coverage or a favorable review.

    Advertising (display and audio)

    Some pages carry advertising. Two kinds may appear:

    • Display ads served by a third-party advertising network in and around articles.

    • Audio ads inside the “listen to this article” player, which is provided by Instaread. When you press play, a short advertisement may run before or during the audio. Instaread and its audio advertising partners sell and serve those ads, and The Sober Curator receives a share of the revenue.

    Advertisers do not see our content before it is published, do not influence what we write, and are not endorsed by us because their ad appears on the Site. BACKSTAGE members who are logged in may hear the audio player without ads.

    Site sponsors and BACKSTAGE brand partners

    The Sober Curator website and our BACKSTAGE membership community are supported by site sponsors and a limited number of founding brand partners. Partners are identified as such wherever they appear on the Site, in the newsletter, and inside BACKSTAGE. Partnership does not influence editorial coverage outside of clearly labeled partner content.

    What we will not do

    • Recommend something we have not tried or would not stand behind.

    • Accept payment from addiction treatment centers to promote their services.

    • Hide a paid relationship from you.
