So yeah, we won an award for Best Podcast.
We know. We’re just as surprised as you are.
Here’s a recap of our winning weekend in Austin, Texas.
I arrived in Austin last weekend, making this a two-week trip. I spent the first week in Nashville before arriving in Austin on August 22nd. I worked through Wednesday, and then Mike and our sister Kathy flew in on Thursday.
There was an informal get-together that evening at Güero’s Taco Bar, where we met up with our friend Erica. She’s been a follower of ours for a while and was also a guest on our podcast a handful of months ago.
We didn’t end up seeing any of the other attendees, but the four of us had a great meal and a great time catching up.
Friday, my sister and I went on a hike during the day, and then three of us headed downtown for dinner at Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que. Great little restaurant and unbelievably good food.
After dinner, we kicked around downtown Austin for a little while and ended the night watching an absolutely amazing number of bats come flying out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge.
Saturday night was the big event.
It started with a short reception from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by the award ceremony from 7:00 to 9:00.
The Best Podcast category was, I believe, the third category announced.
But yeah…we already gave away the surprise.
We won the award for Best Podcast!
The nomination itself was a surprise. But to actually win?
That was something else.
We’re just a couple of guys with a small podcast and a relatively small following, but clearly some fiercely loyal followers and listeners.
Apparently, we won by an overwhelming margin, based on what Chris Marshall told us.
The win is both humbling and gratifying. We don’t really feel like we do anything out of the ordinary. We simply sit down every week and have a conversation.
But it’s really nice to have that recognized.
It was also great meeting Chris from Sans Bar. He’s a wonderful guy, and it was a pleasure to finally meet him and have the opportunity to talk with him. We also got to meet some of the other folks from the sober and recovery community, which made the weekend even more special.
So what now?
That’s the easy part.
We’re just going to keep doing what we do.
The same conversations. The same ridiculousness. The same honesty. The same podcast that somehow brought us all the way to Austin and ended with us walking away with an award.
We’re still Sober Not Mature.
We just happen to be award-winning Sober Not Mature now.
And honestly?
That’s pretty damn cool.
