Single Drunk Female Season Two – We’re Addicted!

After a public flame-out at a New York media company, 20-something alcoholic Samantha Fink is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back home with her overbearing mother, Carol.

Back in Greater Boston, Samantha restarts her life, working at the local grocery store while surrounded by all of the triggers that made her drink in the first place. Confronted with remnants of her old life, including run-ins with her perfect former best friend, who is now dating her ex, Samantha sets out on a path to move past her worst self and figure out her best self. Kinda.

“Single Drunk Female” returns for a second season, and it’s clear that it intends to double down on the raucous, booze-free antics that made its debut so compelling. The show follows the trials and tribulations of Samantha (Sofia Black-D’Elia), a young woman navigating her way through the highs and lows of single life in New York City. From messy one-night stands to questionable career decisions, Samantha’s journey is anything but predictable, and it’s this unpredictability that makes the show so addictive to watch. While some may criticize “Single Drunk Female” for glamorizing reckless behavior, it’s hard to deny the show’s charm and sense of fun. With its sharp writing, strong performances, and unapologetically wild tone, season two proves to be just as entertaining as its predecessor, if not more so.

Single Drunk Female – Season Two

Single Drunk Female Meme shown above from the Single Drunk Female Facebook page.

Get ready for the much-anticipated return of Samantha Fink, the unfiltered heroine of Single Drunk Female. As she navigates life without booze and confronts her deepest fears and desires, Samantha realizes that living sober is harder than she ever imagined. But with the help of her loyal friends and a tenacious attitude, she’s determined to make the most of her newfound sobriety and claim her place in the world once and for all.

    Season Two Stand-Out Characters

Sofia Black-D’Elia, who plays Samantha Fink, does a superb job of portraying a believable late 20-something’s journey to sobriety in the first two years of getting sober. This character is the perfect blend of humor, sarcasm, and vulnerability as she battles dealing with her mixed emotions and living with her mom, Carol.

Carol, played by Ally Sheedy, has earned the nickname “Smother” because of her overbearing parenting style. I found myself wanting to smack Carol upside the head at how tone-deaf she is in regard to how hard Sam is working to put her life back together by using the 12 steps. Carol does evolve as the series goes on. We do get a cameo appearance from Molly Ringwald, who plays Carol’s sister-in-law Alice, that will excite those of us that grew up with the brat pack in the 80s.

Perhaps my favorite character is Lily Mae Harrington, who plays Felicia O’Brien, Samantha’s current BFF and former drinking buddy. I will always cheer for the voluptuous, single mom character in any series or movie, especially when that character finds love. Felicia is exactly the type of bestie I’d want cheering for me in early recovery.

    Changing Sponsors

The newest addition to this eclectic mix of personalities is Darby, the “Grand-Sponsor,” played by Busy Phillips (who I adore!) As a woman in long-term recovery, I am OBSESSED with ANY CHARACTER that represents our shrinking population. Seriously, the longer I stay sober (#ODAAT), the smaller the circle of women in long-term recovery seems to get surrounding me. Why? Because staying sober without any relapses, or “slips,” as some people call them, is hard work. Women with consistent long-term recovery are like unicorns, and the character Darby is the perfect unicorn to represent us.

In a turn of events, Darby becomes Sam’s new sponsor. As someone who has had seven sponsors in 17 years, it’s very believable that at two years sober, Sam would get a new sponsor. Darby is a stylish and quirky middle-aged blonde who isn’t easily impressed by any of Sam’s drama. There’s a scene where Sam is shopping with Darby, and Darby changes the price tags on the item she wants, swapping it for another tag that is less expensive.

I had to giggle at this because while it’s not something I do anymore, it was certainly an old trick that I used to do myself prior to actually working a program and making all of my financial amends. And to be clear, what I am saying is I had that kind of behavior completely sober, just like Darby. This goes to show that sponsors aren’t perfect. We’re still a work in progress, and I really loved how Darby’s character showed what it’s like to be in long-term sobriety, guiding a younger gal like Sam through the work of the 12 steps.

Dear Freeform – Please make a Season Three!

In conclusion, Season Two delves even deeper into Sam’s complex character and takes viewers along for the ride. Amidst the chaos of starting over and finding oneself, Sam grapples with discomfort and navigates life’s curveballs with humor and resilience. With a keen eye for detail and a sharp wit, Sam discovers how to effect change where she can and learns to sit in discomfort when necessary. Through it all, she embraces the journey and perhaps even finds a way to enjoy the ride.
