Macklemore Continues to Recover Out Loud with New Album “Ben”

On March 03, 2023, Macklemore, aka Ben Haggarty, will be dropping “Ben”, the album. As someone who is sober and resides in the Emerald City, I have been following his music since he dropped “The Town” on his first album The Unplanned Mixed tape. I was around 2-3 years sober the first time I heard this song and it really spoke to me. I’ve been a fan ever since.

To me, I find Macklemore’s music deeply connected with his personal struggles with substance abuse and his journey to sobriety. Many fans, myself included, have found inspiration in his honesty and vulnerability in discussing these themes. From a sober perspective, his lyrics can be relatable and provide a sense of community and understanding. His songs such as “Starting Over” and “Otherside” address the challenges of addiction and the hope that comes with recovery.

Additionally, his music often touches on topics related to social justice and advocacy, making his message even more meaningful to those in recovery who may be seeking a sense of purpose and connection in their sober lives. Ultimately, Macklemore’s music can serve as a source of support and inspiration for those who are navigating the challenges of sobriety. And, as a person who loves to thrift shop, I usually have his playlist at the ready when I head into the city to hit up my favorite thrift shops and consignment stores.

No Bad Days – Directed by Sloane Haggerty

Macklemore’s newest song, No Bad Days, dropped a must-see video on March 3rd, 2023, directed by his oldest daughter Sloane Haggerty. If you’re from the Emerald City, there are lots of visual gems in this video, including a cameo of the Air Scream Mobile Karaoke bar that we’ve featured before. And if you’re #sobernotboring and love to karaoke, check it out HERE.

Service Work is the Secret Sauce

Macklemore loves his city, and he shows it on a regular basis by the various ways he gives back to the local Seattle community. One of those ways is with The Residency, a nonprofit organization co-founded by Macklemore, whose mission is to support and empower young creatives who are passionate about pursuing a career in the arts. The program provides emerging artists with the opportunity to learn and collaborate with industry professionals, including musicians, producers, and visual artists.

The Residency offers a six-month program that includes mentorship, workshops, and resources to help participants develop their skills and build their networks. The program also includes opportunities for participants to showcase their work in public performances and exhibitions. Through The Residency, Macklemore aims to create a community of young artists who are able to develop their talents and pursue their passions in a supportive and inclusive environment.

    About Bogey Boys

If you’ve followed Macklemore for any length of time, then you probably know that over time he has developed a deep love and affection for the game of golf. Read more about that story here. From my vantage point, I’ve always appreciated Macklemore’s sense of style, including the way he blends vintage with modern. He mixes patterns just as well as he mixes tapes. Peep below for my curated favs from the current Bogey Boys collections.
