It’s All About The Herbs! An Interview With Rachelle Robinett, Herbalist & Founder Of Supernatural NYC, And Her Partnership With Free Rain

Rachelle Robinett, Herbalist and Founder of Supernatural Café in New York City has partnered with Free Rain, one of our favorite sparkling waters that lives up to the claim of more flavor, more function, and more you.

Growing up on a farm in the Pacific Northwest, Rachelle came to understand the symbiotic relationship between people and the natural world. Yay Rachelle! Shout out to the Pacific Northwest (#upperleftcorner, #nwisbest) She has spent her career sharpening her understanding of “wellness,” helping people address their health in realistic ways through her multi-purpose company Supernatural, which gives people the tools to live out their wellness ideals through one-on-one coaching, workshops, and a product line of herbal gummies.

Rachelle Robinett

Holistic Health Practitioner, Certified Herbalist, and Founder of Supernatural

Rachelle Robinett is a Holistic Health Practitioner, Certified Herbalist, and Founder of Supernatural – a plant-based real-world wellness initiative. Rachelle combines her knowledge of herbal and traditional medicine, plant–based nutrition, and habit remodeling into holistic solutions for busy individuals seeking best-being in their bodies and minds.

She maintains a private coaching practice in New York, and is the mastermind behind HRBLS: herbal remedy gummies for stress-anxiety relief and energy-endurance.  Her passions include publishing, teaching, speaking, well-being advocacy, and exploring plants in far-away places.

Supernatural Cafe NYC

Supernatural Cafe is Industry City’s bespoke wellness center featuring one-on-one herbal consultations, holistic health coaching, a blissed out menu to boost your body + mind, curated goodies for take home self-care and elevated happenings for anyone seeking a healthy and holistic lifestyle.

We had a chance to catch up with Rachelle and ask her a few questions about living an herbal lifestyle and the benefits it can have combined with sober living.

What drew you to practicing Herbalism?

Herbalism has been a lifelong practice for me. I am an explorer, deeply inquisitive and adventurous, and have always been dedicated to understanding the human experience as fully as possible. Herbalism is the place where nature and humanity meet – it encompasses all that I care deeply about – mind, body, spirit and natural health.

How long have you had a partnership with Free Rain?

I started working with Free Rain last year, when they launched!

Do you have a favorite Free Rain flavor?

I love Calm because I love-love making herbal cocktails. Herbal alternatives to alcohol (and caffeine, and other less-than-natural habits it’s so easy to fall into) are my specialty.

I also like to drink Calm while teaching or speaking because it’s a peaceful nervine-infused blend that – while can help with sleep – isn’t overtly sedative and so won’t disrupt evening work, reading, or tasks.

Any tips on must have items to keep on hand in the kitchen?

Food medicines are the original herbalism! I’d rather anyone ate great food than used herbs and supplements – that’s really where it starts. Some favorites include: garlic and onions, all of the cruciferous vegetables! Fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, mint, oregano, rosemary, basil – more is more there.

Dried spices (good quality!) are also an excellent and easy way to get more function from your food. I believe that nearly everyone can eat more plants in general and I aim for some form of vegetable in every meal. And it’s definitely a good idea to have healthy things to sip on (eh hem, Free Rain).

Any tips to someone who is new, but herbal curious to getting started?

  • Drink Free Rain and follow along with the work we do together! I teach, speak and host events often – all of which are for the herbal-curious. There are many classes online now, and tons of books available, so explore as you see fit.
  • I always recommend finding a teacher with a perspective and topics you appreciate. There are hundreds of teachers, and many global healing traditions, so finding someone you resonate with is a great way to get some focus on the herbal exploration journey.
  • Also, start making teas.

Anything else you think The Sober Curator readers need to know?

The world of herbal alternatives to alcohol is vast and exciting! I urge everyone to consider why they reach for certain remedies – be that food, medication, drinks, screens, or otherwise. When we can understand a bit more about why – our motivations for our actions – then we can seek the replacements that will free us.

There are thousands of herbs available to us now, for cheap and sometimes even for free (foraging!). Exploring them can open us to greater health, yes, but also to improved relationships, new interests and passions, more peace, better connectivity to ourselves and others, and joy in general. On this path of working with plants I feel surrounded by supportive friends, even in the urban jungle of NYC. They are for everyone.

Herbal Mocktail Recipe Ala Supernatural using Free Rain

  • COMBINE: Free Rain Sparkling Water + splash of fruit juice or fresh squeezed citrus. Rachelle prefers Grapefruit + Lime juice.
  • ADD HERBAL TINCTURE(S): For an alcohol-free buzz Rachelle recommends Kava, which naturally you can order from her online from Supernatural
  • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Add muddled basil or mint. Small piece of fresh or dried fruit. (cherries, orange, candied ginger) Sugar and/or salt the rim.

Sober Curator Pro Tip: We learned all about perfecting the garnish of a thick-rimmed mocktail from our Sober Curator, @Tonix.Mocktails, in this post from her “Just a Merry Mocktail Monday, The Staples” series.

Free Rain Sparkling water claims to have more flavor, more function, and more you. It’s always happy hour somewhere and we believe that Free Rain delivers on their promises. With Free Rain you can channel energy, focus, and a sense of calm. Sounds pretty good, right? When you choose to live an alcohol free life, you can truly be happy every hour. Check out our full review from Dry January here.
