Here’s another throwback out of our sober archives by Tonix Mocktails. Nik Popkow is serving up a very creative, DIY, zero-proof mocktail recipe you can make at home called “The Wednesday”. Inspired by Christina Ricci from the Addams Family circa 1991, this drink will dazzle and delight. I guess one could consider this a wellness drink of sorts! What’s in the Mix with Tonix Mocktails? This year Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, celebrated forty years of helping people recover from substances. Betty Ford was a courageous voice in the recovery community and stood loud and proud when she recovered from her addictions to alcohol and prescription medications. After detoxing on my own, I went to the BFC in November of 2020 and went straight into their residential sober living homes on Daisy Lane, about a mile from the BFC. There I participated in high-intensity outpatient treatment for my alcoholism while living in a house with five other women. I was there for three…

We all have goals, desires, and responsibilities that we need to take ownership of and be accountable for in life to thrive. However, sometimes we get so caught up in daily routines or what others think of us that we force our desires to take a back seat because they don’t seem as important as our other responsibilities. The things that you desire are on the other side of what is blocking your path. Whether itโs fear, lack of motivation, comparison, or procrastination, the way to get there is to get out of the window, stop looking at other people…
Breaking the Cycle We can talk about being better, creating change, or doing things differently, but if we donโt put actions behind our words, we will not make any difference in our lives. Change starts with action and sticking to the process. It may be as simple as changing your mindset, believing in yourself, and doing your best, but you have to be consistent to manifest. The biggest challenge in personal development is talking the talk and walking the walk. Sometimes this triggers imposter syndrome and the feeling that you are not doing what you said you would, which can…

I didnโt plan to be an alcoholic. I didnโt plan to live a life of recovery. But here I am, seven years in, leading a pretty kick-ass life. A better life than the one I contemplated over most nights after a glass or two (Rather, bottle or two) of wine. I thought all of my problems would be solved whenโฆ When I got a pay raise. When I got a promotion and found the love of my life, you see the pattern. Once one or all of those conditions were met, I would not have to drink so much. Problem…

A story about how falling in love made me feel like I had relapsed katie MACK Seven years ago I was sitting in AA because I was in trouble with my boyfriend, or I guess, he was my ex-boyfriend? I was always in trouble with one ex-boyfriend/boyfriend/ex-girlfriend/girlfriend or another (being queer has increased my chances for more failure opportunities). This was why I was always drying out for one to two months for my third (or fourth?) time in this relationship, and why I was sitting in my fifth AA meeting of the week. Sponsor-less and step-less, I was still well…

By Elizabeth Ross Hubbell Growing up in a small town without a lot of money was a motivator for meโto do better in school, to be the first on my motherโs side to finish college, to seek a new life in a vibrant, diverse city on the other side of the country. I leased a top-floor apartment in a boho neighborhood. I educated myself about wine, bought monogrammed linens, and discovered a love of jazz. I was finally an adult and having a blast! As my life progressed from single woman to married professional and my disposable income grew, that…
Despite what society wants you to believe, being overwhelmed and burnt out isnโt normal and no, not all the cool kids are doing it. Being burnt out can have a negative effect on our health. It can cause elevated stress, insomnia, depression, memory issues, increased irritability, weakened immune system, and lack of productivity, just to name a few. Who knew that trying to overwhelm yourself with more tasks can actually yield opposite results! Before you know it, youโre snapping at your loved ones, canโt remember where you left your glasses (have you checked the top of your head?) and your…
Motherโs Day is special to me becauseโฆIโm a mom. But not only that, it reminds me of why I decided to cut alcohol from my life. If I hadnโt had my son, Iโm not quite sure that Iโd be a non-drinker today. In fact, Iโd probably be going out to bars regularly and trying to relive the glory days of my early 20s. I had a blast back then – but Iโm glad Iโve moved on and that Iโm living my life alcohol-free. So, back to Motherโs Day – most people who take on the mother role in a childโs…
