There is a version of sober content that is essentially homework. A reading list of recovery memoirs. A podcast subscription you feel obligated to finish. A quote graphic on Instagram you save and never read.
This is not that.
This is the actual, opinionated, regularly-updated guide to entertainment we recommend at The Sober Curator. Some of it is about sobriety. Most of it is just good. The point is, all of it makes a sober Tuesday more interesting than it has any right to be.
Updated 2026.

Sober TV Worth Your Time
We watch a lot of TV at The Sober Curator. A lot. And we have developed strong opinions about what actually earns a spot on this list. The shows below either handle addiction and recovery with the kind of honesty that makes you feel genuinely seen, or they are simply great enough to fill a Tuesday at year nine without making you reach for anything. Both qualify.
Nurse Jackie. Probably the best TV show ever made about a high-functioning addict. The final season alone is required viewing. (Our full review: Nurse Jackie Review: Addiction, Recovery & Why It Still Hits Hard)
The Bear. Not officially a sobriety show, but the addiction undertone is everywhere. Carmen’s family. Carmen’s brother. Carmen, period. Yes Chef! We are ready for Season 5 – The Final Season. Aprons on, let’s go. (The Bear Season One, The Bear Season Two, The Bear Season Three, The Bear Season Four)
Ray Donovan. Iconic addiction storytelling, especially the Mickey Donovan arc. (Our full review: Ray Donovan – Iconic Stand-Out Series in the Landscape of Modern Television)
Feel Good. Mae Martin’s Netflix series is one of the most honest portrayals of addiction by someone who has actually lived it. (Our full review: Feel Good: A Netflix Gem That’s Unapologetically Raw and Real)
Flaked. Will Arnett’s deeply uncomfortable sobriety performance. (Our review: Flaked Review: Will Arnett’s Raw Portrayal of Addiction and Recovery – A Psychologist’s Insight)
Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Not for a casual rewatch. For the audience that wants to look back at where the conversation about celebrity addiction used to be. (Our piece on where the cast is now.)

Sober Film
The films on this list earned their place the hard way — we watched them, argued about them, and decided they were worth your two hours. Some are classics. Some are newer. All of them handle addiction, recovery, or sober life with more intelligence than the average Hollywood treatment.
Smashed (2012). The most underrated sobriety film of the last fifteen years. If you have not seen it, fix that. (Our review here: We Watched The 2012 American Drama “Smashed” And It Gave Us All The Feels.)
28 Days. The Sandra Bullock rehab classic that holds up better than expected. (Our review here: 28 Days the Movie, Starring Sandra Bullock)
Beautiful Boy. Brutal. Necessary. A father-son addiction story carried by Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet. (Our review here: Beautiful Boy Review: A Raw Memoir on Addiction, Family & Recovery.)
Happy Gilmore 2. Did not see that one coming. The Sandler stash-the-booze moment landed harder than expected. (Our review: Sandler Swings, Stumbles, and Stashes Booze in Weird Places in Long-Awaited Sequel Happy Gilmore 2)

Quit Lit and Addiction Fiction
The books we actually finished. Not the ones gathering dust on the recovery shelf since 2019. The bar for this list is simple — did we read it all the way through, and did it make us feel something? If yes, it is here.
This Naked Mind by Annie Grace. The gateway book. The one you hand to a friend who is asking questions. (This Naked Mind Review: Annie Grace Book That Changes Everything)
Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. Not technically quit lit. Read it anyway. (Is Matthew McConaughey Sober? What ‘Greenlights’ Reveals About His Drinking)
Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. Won the Pulitzer. Earned every word of it. (Addiction Fiction Book Review: Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver)
Little Girl Lost by Drew Barrymore. The original celebrity sobriety memoir. Still holds up. (Our review: “Little Girl Lost” by Drew Barrymore.)
Margo’s Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe. Single mom, addiction undertone, hits hard in ways you do not see coming. (Our review: Margo’s Got Money Troubles Review: A Sober Take on Rufi Thorpe’s Novel)
Plus, we recently had the Author, Rufi Thorpe, BACKSTAGE with The Sober Curator. Join BACKSTAGE today and get in on the coolest sober culture club online.
Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp. The literary classic of the genre. If you have not read it, start here before anything else on this list. (#QUITLIT Recovery Book Review: The New York Times Bestseller “Drinking, A Love Story” By Caroline Knapp)
For the full list, see our #QUITLIT Library and our 27 Addiction Fiction Books We’ve Reviewed roundup.

Sober Music
Music is the most personal category on this list, and we are not pretending otherwise. These are not the objectively correct sober artists. They are the ones that have shown up in our lives, our playlists, and our kitchens at 9pm on a Tuesday and made the night feel like something.
Macklemore. The sober music canon includes him. Full stop. If you grew up in Seattle, his catalog hits with an extra layer — the lyrics map recovery in a way that feels less like performance and more like someone talking directly to you.
Eminem, post-2008. Maps his own recovery in real time across multiple albums. The progression alone is worth paying attention to. STANS: A Love Letter to Eminem from His Ride-or-Die Fans – A Raw Look at Sobriety, Fandom, and Mental Health
Depeche Mode, from Songs of Faith and Devotion forward. Dave Gahan got sober and the music shifted. You can hear it if you know what you are listening for. Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode’s Inspiring Journey to Sobriety Since 1996
Cameron Whitcomb. A recovery-out-loud singer-songwriter we are paying close attention to. (Our piece: Cameron Whitcomb’s Addiction Story: ‘Recovering Out Loud’ Lyrics and His Sobriety)

Sober Podcasts
The podcast landscape for sober content ranges from genuinely excellent to deeply exhausting. We have listened to a lot of both so you do not have to. These are the ones we actually come back to.
The Sober Curator Podcast. Yes, we are recommending ourselves. It is our list. Get ready! Season Two will launch this summer.
Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. Not a sobriety podcast, but Dax has interviewed 33+ sober guests and he himself is one. The conversations are long, honest, and worth the time. (See our full list of sober guest episodes.)
SmartLess. Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman talk about sobriety openly enough that it counts. (Our list of episodes with sober guests.)
F*cking Sober – The First Ninety Days. Strap in and sober up as we embark on the most tumultuous journey of our lives—yes, the first 90 days of sobriety. This narrative podcast won a Webby for Season One. F*cking Sober Podcast is an Unflinching, Semi-Comedic, Mostly Nonfictional Narrative Podcast

NA Beverages Worth the Money
The NA category has exploded and not all of it deserves your attention or your dollars. We evaluate these the way we evaluate everything — taste, occasion, ingredient quality, and whether we would actually buy it again. These made the cut.
BERO Edge Hill Hazy IPA. Tom Holland’s NA beer brand. Better than it has any right to be. (Our review: BERO Edge Hill Hazy IPA | Happy Every Hour Review)
Pathfinder. Hemp-based, not for everyone, but legitimately interesting if you are open to something different. (Pathfinder’s Michael Toscano Talks Sober Nightlife and Non-Alcoholic Trends)
Hoplark 0.0 Citra. Light, drinkable, refreshing. The one you reach for without overthinking it. (Our review: Happy Every Hour Review: Hoplark 0.0 Citra)
Athletic Brewing. The category leader for a reason. If you are new to NA beer, start here. (Athletic Brewing Continues to be a Trailblazer)
Deschutes Fresh Squeezed NA IPA. A genuinely good NA IPA from a brewer we trust. (Our review: Deschutes Fresh Squeezed NA IPA)
For the full list, see our Happy Every Hour section and the NA Beers & 90s roundup.
