Our Friendly Neighborhood Non-Alcoholic Beer
Yesterday I sat in a dark theater wearing 3D glasses next to my adult son Jakob, fully prepared for two hours of web-slinging popcorn fun. What I was not prepared for was the crying. Spider-Man: Brand New Day got me. Emotionally invested does not begin to cover it.
And listen, I am always here for a love story we get to watch twice. Tom and Zendaya on-screen, Tom and Zendaya off-screen. MJ and Peter Parker are recently married IRL, and my Gen X heart eats up a sober love story every single time.
There is also something about a lonely superhero trying to get back to the ones he loves that hits differently when you know what it feels like to be isolated. I’ll leave that there.
But here’s the part of this story that belongs on The Sober Curator.
The man inside the Spider-Man suit is sober. Tom Holland has been open about giving up alcohol since 2022. He built BERO, a premium non-alcoholic beer brand. And for everyone who has ever stood at a theater concession stand doing the mental math on what to order while your date gets an IPA: he put it in the lobby.
Now, timed to the July 31 theatrical release, BERO has dropped a limited-edition collection of Spider-Man: Brand New Day-inspired cans, available at berobrewing.com and select movie theaters nationwide, including Alamo Drafthouse and Studio Movie Grill, while supplies last.
Ten years ago, the beverage tie-in for a superhero movie would have been a light beer commercial during the trailers. A sober founder. His hometown beer. Opening weekend of the summer’s biggest release. The concession stand.
There was also a moment with the Hulk — that look on his face when he couldn’t control his own emotions — that I did not expect to feel in my chest. But I did.

The Can Itself Is a Whole Moment
The design is genuinely clever. The Kingston Golden Pils label has been flipped upside down, with Spider-Man dangling from the top of the can, and the box carries the tagline “Your Friendly Neighborhood Non-Alcoholic Beer.” Whoever approved that deserves a raise.
The beer inside is Kingston Golden Pils, named after Holland’s hometown, a take on the traditional European pilsner that’s crisp and refreshing. We’ve actually reviewed BERO’s Edge Hill Hazy IPA before (read Kim’s full review here), so we know this brand delivers on taste, not just story. Translation for the NA-curious: it tastes like an actual beer, not a science experiment.
Fair warning if you want one: the six-packs run $20, and BERO has confirmed there are no plans for a restock. Even Tom is telling fans to move fast. Collector energy applies here. This is merch that happens to be a beverage.
Why This One Matters
I’ve said it before: alcohol is having its cigarette moment. And nothing proves it like Peter Parker himself putting his name, his hometown, and his sobriety behind a beer with no booze in it, then selling it next to the popcorn.
The friendly neighborhood option finally exists.
Grab the six-pack, grab your favorite person, and go see Brand New Day in 3D. Bring tissues.
I’m not kidding about the tissues.
