As I’ve been exploring the many options in the non-alcoholic spirits category, I have been pleasantly surprised to find a few gin alternatives that suit my palate. Gin conjures up warm summer days as it’s served with tonic, or it can evoke that sophisticated cocktail stirred with ice and a bit of vermouth in the classic martini or many variations. Being one of my favorite spirits, I loved discovering that cheeky Philters Jynn makes my top 5 of gin alternatives!
Philters Jynn: Zero Proof Spirit in the Style of Gin
- Created in Tucson, Arizona
- ABV: 0
- Storing: No refrigeration is required. Enjoy up to 6 months after opening.
- Tasting Notes: It has a classic aroma and taste of juniper berries and citrus, with a fresh finish. It is so good that it works in a gin and tonic or martini setup.
As with all NA spirits, I will typically try them as their maker suggests. In this case, Philters only has two recipes on their website, but I’d recommend using it as an equal substitute in any cocktail that calls for gin. It stood up to my gin and tonic test, making a delightful martini. Here’s what I suggest:

NA Dirty Martini
- 2.5 oz Philters Jynn
- ¾ oz Lyre’s Aperitif Dry
- Stir all ingredients in a cocktail pitcher with ice until well-chilled. Strain into a glass and spray with the essence of a lemon peel. Enjoy!
In addition to Jynn, Philters has created a line-up of classic alternative base spirits: Wiski, Ruhm, and Mezkahl. Be sure to check out their Instagram for more inspiration for creating cocktails.
