I Can Buy Myself Flowers: The New Play-Doh for Adults Is the Sober Anniversary Gift We Didn’t Know We Needed

Blooms Play-Doh Flower Set Sober Gift Idea

Somewhere between my Bravo queue and my third NA beverage of the week, Hasbro decided to hand adults a can of Play-Doh and permission to use it. I said yes immediately. You would too.

This isn’t my first time saying yes to a toy company that decided adults deserve nice things. A few years ago I built the Lego Botanical Collection flowers and they’ve lived on my shelf ever since. So when Hasbro came for me next, I was already a convert.

Here’s the deal: Hasbro just launched Blooms by Play-Doh, the first Play-Doh line designed specifically for adults. Instead of lumpy snakes and questionable pancakes, you’re crafting realistic floral arrangements. Real vase. Real tools. Real molds. A finishing spray that preserves your flowers for months. This is Play-Doh with a grown-up job and a skincare routine.

🎧Listen to this article in Alysse’s voice.

Why a Toy Company Is Suddenly in the Home Décor Business

After 70-plus years of being the official scent of childhood, Play-Doh is following its fans into adulthood. Hasbro surveyed more than 10,000 adults around the world and found that roughly one in seven of us turns to arts and crafts to de-stress. Meanwhile, nearly 80 percent of Gen Z and Millennials report feeling burned out.

Burned out and craving something to do with our hands that isn’t doomscrolling? In this economy? (Okay, yes. That one actually lands.)

If you’ve spent any time in recovery, you already know this pull. Not as a cute hobby suggestion — as a body-level need. The hands want something. Puzzles, knitting, coloring books, and now, apparently, sculpting a peony out of the same compound you ate in preschool.

I Bought Two Kits. Here’s the Honest Review.

I picked up the Play-Doh Blooms Wildflower Petite Bouquet and the Play-Doh Blooms Garden Flower Bouquet Making Kit, and I have thoughts.

I started small with the Wildflower Petite Bouquet. Easy, fun, and beginner-friendly, though I never fully mastered the taller flowers. Mine came out looking less “English garden” and more “abstract interpretation of a flower going through something.” The rest turned out fine, and I walked away thinking, okay, this is a cool experience.

Then I made the Garden Flower Bouquet with Audrina, the daughter of one of our own Sober Curators, Amy Liz Harrison. And that, my friends, is where the magic lives.

Some context: I’d been staying at Amy’s house for a few nights — second time in a couple of weeks — which meant Audrina had to give up her bedroom so I had somewhere to sleep. I had promised her a gift for her room. When I showed up with the Garden Flower Bouquet kit, she looked at it, looked at me, and said “Thanks” in the extremely polite way that kids do when they are trying not to hurt your feelings. She’s deep in a slime phase right now. Anything that is not slime is not cool. I knew what that “Thanks” meant.

A few hours later, we sat down to actually try it. And that’s when everything changed.

There is something deeply, almost embarrassingly satisfying about layering different colors of Play-Doh into the patterned tubes, pressing down, and watching perfect petals push out the other side. I was mesmerized. And then I looked over at Audrina. Her eyes were lit up. Like, actually reflecting the little petals. She grabbed my arm every time a new one came through. When we finished, she ran to get every sibling, every parent, anyone in that house — come look at what we made. And when the whole thing was done and displayed in the vase, she walked it over to her windowsill and found exactly the right spot for it.

I’ll link a video so you understand what I mean, because words do not do the petal extrusion justice. It’s the same part of your brain that loves those soap-cutting videos, except at the end you have an actual bouquet. And apparently, the approval of a child who was previously unmoved.

Each kit comes with everything you need: the compound, tools, molds, a vase, and the finishing spray that locks your arrangement in place. Hasbro also loaded step-by-step tutorials onto the Blooms by Play-Doh YouTube channel, so even the craft-challenged among us can end up with something worthy of the mantel.

Sober Curator Pro Tip: Audrina asked me if the flowers needed water. I explained that they did not. And the next time her mom takes her to Michaels, she should get some of those clear craft marble rocks to fill the vase with so it looks like water.

The Perfect Sober Anniversary Gift You Didn’t Know Existed

Here’s where I make my case. Flowers are the default milestone gift, and they die in a week. These don’t. You made them, they last for months, and nobody has to remember to change the water.

If someone in your life is celebrating a sober anniversary, a Blooms kit is a gift that says: here’s a beautiful thing to do with your hands, your time, and your very alive brain. It’s an activity and a keepsake in one box. That’s a strong gift-to-effort ratio.

And if you want to buy one for yourself? Be Miley about it. I can buy myself flowers. Write my name in Play-Doh, probably.

    Where to Get It

Blooms by Play-Doh kits start at $24.99 and come in a range of sizes and styles at Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Select kits also landed on TikTok Shop on July 16, the first time Play-Doh has ever debuted a product there. At the time, I was deep into Lil Yachty Magic in the Hamptons and Jimothy, but the Blooms Play-Doh also managed to grab my attention. (So did a few other things… I mean, I really did NEED the rhinestone hoodie that’s going viral and the denim bucket bag.)

Final verdict: I would absolutely buy another set, and I will absolutely be gifting these. The flowers are eye-catching, the process is weirdly meditative, and the whole thing smells like 1985 in the best possible way.

Sobriety gave me a life where Friday night fun is pressing Play-Doh petals out of a tube with a kid who giggles at every single one. Ten out of ten. No watering required.

What is Blooms by Play-Doh? Blooms by Play-Doh is the first Play-Doh line designed specifically for adults. Launched by Hasbro in July 2026, each kit walks you through crafting realistic flowers, from shaping individual petals to arranging a finished bouquet you can actually display.

Is it the same Play-Doh from childhood? It’s the same familiar compound, but the kits are built for grown-up results: patterned tubes and molds for realistic petals, sculpting tools, a vase, and step-by-step instructions. The nostalgia smell comes free.

How long do the flowers last? Every kit includes a specially formulated finishing spray that preserves the structure of your flowers, so finished arrangements can be displayed for months. No water, no wilting, no guilt about forgetting to water them.

How much do the kits cost and where can I buy them? Kits start at $24.99 and come in a range of sizes and styles at Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Select kits are also on TikTok Shop, which marked the first product debut ever for the Play-Doh brand on that platform.

Is it beginner-friendly? Yes. I am not a crafter and my Wildflower Petite Bouquet still turned out mostly recognizable as flowers. The taller stems take practice, but the instructions are approachable, and the Blooms by Play-Doh YouTube channel has a how-to video for every kit.

Which kit should I start with? The Wildflower Petite Bouquet is the easy on-ramp, but the Garden Flower Bouquet Making Kit is the one I’d recommend. The petal-pressing tubes are the star of the whole experience, and it’s the kit worth doing with a friend, a kid, or your sober crew.

Why is a Play-Doh kit on a sober lifestyle site? Because keeping your hands busy is a legit recovery tool, and this is one of the most satisfying hands-busy activities I’ve found. It’s screen-free, meditative, and you end up with something beautiful you made yourself.

Is Blooms by Play-Doh a good sober anniversary gift? It’s a great one. It’s an activity and a keepsake in one box, the flowers last for months, and it beats a bouquet that dies in a week. Gift it for milestones, or buy one for yourself. Miley would approve.
