Sober Night Out in the Big Apple: An Evening of Connection, Culture, and Conscious Entertainment – #UGLYCRY a Play by katie MACK

Hello, my sober friends and followers!

Get ready to join me for a night on the town in the city that never sleeps – New York City! As a Sober Curator, I am always on the lookout for fun, engaging activities that promote connection and camaraderie without the need for alcohol. I’m flying into the BIG Apple to take my adorable nephew Trick-or-Treating AND see one of my very best sober besties perform in an off-broadway show she also wrote. This is an ALL TREATS no tricks trip for me and it would be sweeter than a drug store bag of candy corn if you decided to join me on Saturday, October 28th for a Sober Night Out in the Big Apple with The Sober Curator. TA-DA! @alysseinthecity (that’s me) travels to Manhatten for an epic Sober Curator fun-filled weekend and will be joined by a handful of other Sober Curators and supporters.

We’ll kick off our night by grabbing some drinks and appetizers at a restaurant close proximety to the Chain Theatre, yet to be determined, on Saturday, October 28th at 5:30P. If you plan on joining us, please email me at thesobercurator@gmail.com, and we’ll get you on our RSVP list and included in our head count. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you get all of the final details for this fabulous sober soiree in plenty of time.

After we’ve had our fill, we’ll head over to see #UGLYCRY – “Grief hits different now,” a powerful and moving play written and performed by one of my favorite humans, the memorable katie MACK. If her name sounds like it’s ringing a sober bell, she’s the mastermind behind the Webby Award Winning Fcking Sober -First 90 Days podcast and you can read more about that here. This performance will touch your heart and stir your soul as we delve into themes of grief, loss, and hope.

About #UGLYCRY

After the death of her ex-boyfriend, this grieving, social media-obsessed millennial brings him back to life with her phone. Based on a true story.

Please note: Unlike traditional theater going experiences, this show is INTERACTIVE and IMMERSIVE.
What that means at #UGLYCRY is that we cannot tell the story without you! We can promise there will be nothing done to embarrass you, but we might ask you to be brave and interact with the set, the performer, and each other. All you need is your smartphone, yourself, and a sprinkle of grief.

When: Saturday, October 28th – 8p

Where: Chain Theatre – Main Stage – New York 312 West 36th St, NYC

Cost: $25

Sober Curator Pro Tip: The show is running October 28th – November 18th off the WALL productions | #uglycry | theater (insideoffthewall.com)

While nightlife in New York City is often associated with cocktails and champagne, there’s a growing trend towards alcohol-free offerings. From sober parties to zero-proof drinks, the city is embracing the sober spirit, proving that you can have a great time without alcohol. Here’s a short list of some of our favorite NY stops for those that are #sobernotboring:

NYC Sober Bars:

  • Hekate – An intimate sober bar and specialty tea shop that offers herbal elixirs. It’s located in the East Village and is known for its feminine energy 1.
  • Listen Bar – An alcohol-free pop-up bar that has appeared in various locations around the city, from basement dives to rooftop lounges2.
  • Sèchey – A zero-proof bar that caters to the ‘sober curious’3.
  • Botanica Bar – While not exclusively a sober bar, it appears to be well-rated and could offer non-alcoholic options4.
  • BANZARBAR – Located above the Freemans Restaurant, this bar provides an intimate and romantic experience. While not explicitly stated as a sober bar, they may offer high-quality non-alcoholic cocktails2.

Sober Curator Pro Tip: Remember to check their websites or call ahead to confirm their current offerings, as menus and services can change.

NYC Alcohol-Free Bottle Shops:

  • Spirited Away – America’s first non-alcoholic bottle shop, offering a range of booze-free spirits, wines, beers, and cocktails 1.
  • Boisson Upper East Side – A shop specializing in non-alcoholic spirits, beer, and wine 2.
  • Boisson Cobble Hill – Another location of Boisson in Brooklyn, offering a variety of non-alcoholic beverages 3.
  • Zero Proof – The Alcohol Free Liquor Shop – This shop offers a selection of alcohol-free wines, boasting only 60 calories per bottle 4.
  • Minus Moonshine – A new dry liquor store in Brooklyn focused on non-alcoholic options 5.

Sober Curator Pro Tip: Please remember to check their websites or call ahead to confirm their current offerings, as services can change.

Celebrate Sober October with The Sober Curator

So, whether you’re a local New Yorker or visiting from out of town, I invite you to join me for this special sober night out. Let’s connect, laugh, #UGLYCRY, and experience the magic of New York City together – all while staying true to our sober journey. As I like to say, “because drunk never looks good.”

Stay tuned for more details about this exciting event. Can’t wait to see you there! I promise I’ll greet you in the EXACT same way I greeted katie MACK when we met for the first time, at The Met, back in February 2022. IG Reel Evidence click here.

F*cking Sober Podcast is the unflinching first-person narrative of Anita Drake’s first 90 days of getting sober in NYC. Twenty-eight-year-old Anita counts from 1 to 90 days immersing herself into the awkward world of sobriety and what it means to grow up. F*cking Sober Podcast also dropped Season Two: Betsy earlier this year. Betsy is a suburban housewife that “has it all”. But does she really? You’ll have to listen to find out!
