One thing I will never tire of is when regular alcoholic breweries release NA offerings. There’s a level of inclusion there that just warms my cold, dark heart. This week, with that narrative in mind, we try the NA offering of Flying Dog, a brewery that has many delicious alcoholic options that finally gave up some awesomeness to us NA drinkers!
How Does It Pour?
Deep Fake IPA from Flying Dog is what’s pouring into our glasses this week. It’s a beer that hints at warmer weather and tickles your fancy in an unexpected way. Flying Dog brings the color and crisphead that seems a little surprising for an IPA. The color is bright and the head is white, instead of cream-colored. The aroma off the top is immediate and hints at sweet citrus and mild hops. They bubble up your nose as the head breaks up.
How Does It Taste?
As Deep Fake hits your tongue, Flying Dog’s surprise citrus continues and the beer is filled with the flavors of fruit and just a mild tinge of hops. What reads on the can as an IPA, comes out in full force as a juicy West Coast IPA, full of fruit flavor and not really offering any knockback hophead overbearing IPA notes.
Untappd gives this Deep Fake IPA from Flying Dog a 2.9 out of 5, and while I agree with the rating, I am cautious to speak ill of the only release from a “normal” brewery. I will say, this beer is perfect for those who don’t want overpowering hops and are big fans of the fruit flavor in some more modern IPAs. In that, they have won! Go Flying Dog!
