BrewDog’s Elvis AF is a Classic Non-Alcoholic IPA With a Little Something Extra

We are joined again by one of the leading alcoholic breweries in non-alcoholic selections. BrewDog comes to us by way of Ohio by way of the U.K. We’ve had many of their NA brews, or AF brews as they call them (AF = alcohol-free), and this one is one of their staples in their high-octane alcoholic beers, but they made a toned-down NA version for all of us awesome people. Are you ready to get funky?

This week we are drinking Elvis AF by BrewDog. Elvis AF is the non-alcoholic version of their signature beer: Elvis Juice. I know many of you are conjuring up someone squeezing Elvis until juice comes out, or even something sexual, but instead, this is one of their classic IPAs with a little something extra added. What’s that? What’s extra? It’s a little fruit you might know of as grapefruit. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear grapefruit in beer is a shandy, but this one puts the beer first and the grapefruit in a strong second, but not in a 50/50 role.

How Does It Pour?

When you crack an Elvis AF by BrewDog, you get a slight aroma of hoppy IPA sweetness and a bit of citrus. The beer pours a beautiful orange, golden color as copper kissed it; a beautiful IPA presentation and the white head is a stark contrast from the dark golden colored brew in the glass.

How Does It Taste?

The flavor of this beer by BrewDog comes at you gently, immediately reminding you that at the heart, it’s an IPA, but coming in quickly behind it with that citrus and grapefruit that all complement the bitterness of the hops and create a surprisingly full flavor profile, with a light mouth feel. This is an excellent beer for IPA lovers, especially if you aren’t looking for something too heavy.

Untappd gives Elvis AF by BrewDog a 3.2 out of 5. I think in a strictly NA world, you could bump that up to a 4. It’s a great beer and brewed well, with expertise and intention. Check it out and try all of the other great NA selections from BrewDog!
