“Untamed” by Glennon Doyle – A Memoir That Feels Like a Heartfelt Conversation

In “Untamed,” Glennon Doyle crafts a memoir that feels like a heartfelt conversation with an old friend, guiding readers through a profound journey of self-discovery, love, and embracing our true selves. With her signature blend of casual honesty, wit, and a sprinkle of humor, Doyle’s account is an outcry for personal liberation and a tender, comforting embrace for anyone struggling to break free from societal expectations.

An Invitation to Authenticity

From the very first page, Doyle’s voice is inviting and invigorating. Her telltale, no-filter narrative style captures readers, making even the most profound reflections feel accessible and relatable. Doyle’s ability to infuse humor and lightness into her storytelling is nothing short of magical. It’s as if she’s leading you through a vibrant garden, pointing out the beauty in every flower and the lesson in every thorn.

Raw Honesty and Realness

Doyle’s unfiltered honesty is the beating heart of “Untamed.” She shares her journey with a rawness that is both refreshing and empowering. Whether she’s recounting her struggles with addiction, the dissolution of her marriage, or the joy and fear of falling in love with her now-wife Abby, Doyle lays bare her soul. This unvarnished truth-telling allows readers to see themselves in her story and find solace in the shared human experience of struggle and triumph.

Embracing the “Knowing”

A central theme in Untamed is the concept of the “Knowing”—an inner voice that guides us toward our true selves. Doyle’s exploration of this idea is both poetic and practical. She invites readers to listen to their own Knowing, trust their inner wisdom, and break free from the cages of societal expectations. Her reflections on this theme are delivered with an optimistic touch, making the serious subject matter feel like an exciting adventure.

Challenging Societal Norms

Doyle doesn’t just share her journey; she also confronts and critiques the societal norms that often confine us. She challenges readers to question the status quo, to reevaluate the roles and rules that society imposes, and to find the courage to live authentically. Her anecdotes and sharp insights blend seamlessly to create a thought-provoking and entertaining narrative.

A  Heroine We Can Identify With

What makes “Untamed” particularly compelling is the challenges Doyle presents to the reader to confront their own thoughts and feelings. By sharing her journey with raw authenticity, she uses the classic sense of relatability Doyle is known for. She presents herself not as a distant author but as a friend sharing her deepest truths. Her candid storytelling creates a sense of intimacy, making readers feel connected to her.

Conclusion

“Untamed” by Glennon Doyle is a beautifully crafted memoir that dovetails beautifully as a sequel to “Love Warrior” or a stand-alone reflection. Doyle’s reliable ability to tell a relatable, authentic account of her experiences and her unique ability to accomplish the sin all her books (and “Untamed” is no exception) make this book a powerful read for anyone seeking to embrace their true selves.

With her heartfelt honesty, humor, and profound insights, Doyle offers a roadmap to living untamed, urging readers to break free from societal constraints and live their most authentic lives. Whether you are a longtime fan of Doyle or new to her work, “Untamed” will leave you feeling inspired, invigorated, and ready to meet and unleash your true self. I highly recommend Glennon’s firsthand account of her journey of self-discovery and liberation.  Sober Curator Pro Tip: Glennon also offers Get Untamed: The Journal as a supplement to the book.

Harrison is also a podcaster, recovery/mental health advocate, a 12-step coach, a mom to eight biological kids, and a wife to one Australian airline executive. Harrison’s material is semi geared towards Gen Xers, but like “We Are the World,” it’s really for everyone, because she’s a lover, not a fighter. Sober since 2011, she used to like pina coladas. But as a native Californian, she has never liked getting caught in the rain.
