The Daily Llama brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, February 15th through Friday, February 19th, 2021.

    MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15th

THE DAILY LLAMA WORD OF THE DAY:
    AUTHORITY

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

Some of us may have been told at one time that we have “problems with authority.” Our attitudes of defiance toward power and authority may stem from times when the people who had power in our lives abused that power. They created fear in our hearts rather than assurance or security.

Power was not shared with us. Subsequently, we learned to be helpless. This helplessness then gave birth to anger, depression, or anxiety (or in most cases, all three).

Healthy power protects, secures, and shares. Unhealthy power belittles, intimidates, and silences.

To come into our own authority means we stop abdicating our power to others, but we don’t steamroll them either. We can set boundaries for ourselves, but we also know how to respect and honor the boundaries of others. We learn to speak up, but we also learn how to listen.

    TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16th

    THE DAILY LLAMA
    WORD OF THE DAY: CAPACITY

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

Capacity has an interesting double meaning. It can mean both “ability” and “space”. Both meanings of the word fit today’s quote: everything comes to us that belongs to us if we can receive it, but also if we have made space for it in our lives.

This holds for both the good things and the bad things.

Tired of all the drama? It’s there to the extent you created space for it in your life. Wanting a more meaningful connection with others? Make room for it, and work on your ability to create it.

    WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th

    THE DAILY LLAMA
    WORD OF THE DAY: AGREEMENT

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

Some of us may find it difficult to be at home in our bodies. We may find it easier to pretend (at least for short periods of time) that we’re somewhere else. We may forget to eat or drink enough water. We may neglect our bedtimes, or work long hours. We may also be slow to register what emotions we feel, as emotions often show up in our bodies first. We may struggle with physical intimacy because being touched reminds us we have bodies that can be hurt.

For some of us, recovery may mean less about what we do or don’t do, and more about learning how to come home to our bodies.

    THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18th

    THE DAILY LLAMA
    WORD OF THE DAY: LEAD

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

It is difficult to ask from others that which we are not willing to do ourselves. If we want others to be honest with us, we need to be honest with them. If we want others to open up to us, we need also to be vulnerable. If we want others to be considerate towards us, we must also behave with consideration of others’ needs.

Of course, when we put forth our best efforts to do these things, there is no guarantee that others will follow our lead. But if we allow fear to hold us back from putting out into the universe the very things we want to receive, then the odds of losing increase significantly. When we exercise the courage to put ourselves out there, the odds of getting what we need increase exponentially.

    FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19th

    THE DAILY LLAMA
    WORD OF THE DAY: DIRECTION

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

Adaptability is key to survival and success. Sometimes we get hyper-focused on our goal that we confuse our strategy to be our goal. So when our strategies start to fall apart, we feel discouraged about our ability to reach our goal. We confuse learning with failing.

It’s important to learn the difference between strategy and goal. By holding our strategies loosely, we keep ourselves open to growth and learning. We learn what works and what doesn’t work for us. We become better able to adjust what we’re doing on the fly without losing sight of the goal or our belief in our ability to achieve it.

Rather than resist adversity and remain stuck, we learn to embrace challenges and create growth.
