After Hayden Panettiere’s death at 36, Contributor Carolyn Bunn returned to “This Is Me: A Reckoning” with a different perspective. As a woman in long-term sobriety who has also chosen not to have children, she reflects on addiction, postpartum depression, motherhood, identity and the complicated gaps we sometimes leave in our own stories.
McCurdy’s portrayal of her relationship with her mother is both heart-wrenching and thought-provoking. What struck me was how McCurdy was able to perfectly articulate that duality of being traumatized by the one person who was meant to care for you and love you above all else, and loving despite the trauma she endured.
