You Better Watch Out, You Better Not Cry
If you want to add a hilarious twist to your holiday celebrations, Uncle Mike Ruins Christmas should be added to your list this season. A blend of foul humor, ingenious improv, and a sprinkle of unfiltered chaos, this comedy show at the Erickson Theatre in Seattle is unlike anything else you’ll experience during the holidays. But don’t be fooled—it’s not for the faint of heart.
This show is an unforgettable comedic rollercoaster where audience members contribute cherished (or awkward) holiday memories, only to have Uncle Mike and the talented cast hilariously ruin them in ways you’d never expect. Think bawdy retellings, inappropriate family dynamics, and absurd satire. Oh, and a strong warning upfront—this is not a family-friendly show.
Bawdy retellings of audience members’ anecdotes… for those whose hearts are two sizes too small.”

A foul, perverted, and often funny satire of family dysfunction.”

My Experience at Uncle Mike Ruins Christmas
Oh, the irony! I received media passes to attend Uncle Mike Ruins Christmas on behalf of The Sober Curator. Attending a show renowned for its irreverence and bawdy humor while sober? Challenge accepted.
The show takes place at the Erickson Theatre on Capitol Hill, conveniently located around the corner from the Egyptian Theatre and across the street from one of my favorite Seattle restaurants, Life on Mars—one of the rare gems offering alcohol-free drink menus before they were the trend. Of course, in true Uncle Mike fashion, alcohol-free options were nowhere to be found at the theater’s bar, which only offered beer and wine. Want water or soda? You’ll have to settle for the nearest water fountain. Stay hydrated—if you can!
This time, I brought my trusty, sober allies, Libby Sundgren and Nina Feldman. To our surprise, holiday memories from all three of us were pulled from the infamous Rainier Beer box and brought to life in the most outrageous ways by the cast. But Libby’s memory stole the show, closing out the night with a scene so uproarious, it had us in stitches.
Here’s how it unfolded (and brace yourself): Libby’s childhood memory of opening stockings with her siblings, JD and Kit, went from innocent to absolutely wild. A seemingly normal stocking gift scene turned into absolute chaos when “Libby” opened her box to find it filled with 20-30 prescription pill bottles (aka Tic Tacs). What followed was pure insanity, as the cast devoured the “pills,” rolled on the floor in a mock high, and left the audience roaring with laughter. Yes, it was ridiculous. Yes, it was cringe-worthy. And yes, it was hilariously unforgettable.

For sober attendees like myself, the humor pushed boundaries—so be willing to take it all in stride. This is not a show for someone easily offended or without a healthy appreciation for dark comedy. But for those with a sharp sense of humor and a thick skin, it’s an absolute riot.
Foul, Fun, and Oh-So Cringe-Worthy
This show combines everything you’d hope for—and dread—from a satirical holiday experience. It’s foul yet fun, alarming yet charming, and downright outrageous at times. The blend of audience participation, quick-thinking improv, and wicked humor makes this a unique, laugh-out-loud addition to any comedy lover’s holiday calendar.
That said, sobriety or not, a warning for newbies is in order. Some moments will veer into cringe territory, and the humor is definitely not everyone’s cup of (spiked) eggnog.
The Sobees Score: 3 out of 5

For my fellow sober comedy seekers, Uncle Mike Ruins Christmas earns 3 out of 5 Sobees. While the laughs are plentiful, and the antics are memorably absurd, the lack of non-alcoholic drink options and occasional over-the-top moments deduct a few points. However, if you’re a fan of dark humor, have a good sense of humor about, well, just about anything, and want to shake up your usual holiday routine, this is a perfect show to attend with friends. Sober Curator Fun Fact: While I can not confirm this, I have a strong suspicion that the emcee of this show was also the actor in the welcome video at one of my favorite Seattle tourist attractions, Wings Over Washington – Seattle’s Flying Theater, which I have visited over 20+ times.
