Hey Sober Portland Oregon Peeps! Play, learn and connect with other sober/sober-curious/soberish women as you enjoy the love and calm of a creative flow state.

Are you ready to feel joy, lightness, and inspiration?

Ready for uplifting conversation, and fun?

Join the My Sober Girlfriends group for this engaging, heart-centered workshop from our guest facilitator, professional artist Barb Burwell called The Freedom of Creativity.

Do you think of yourself as creative? Whether the answer is a resounding yes or a hesitant no, if you are a growth-oriented sober /sober-curious/soberish woman willing to explore an approach to infusing your life with creativity, this workshop is for you!

Because the truth is– all humans are creators, whether you express yourself through words, music, cooking, your clothing style, furniture arrangement, travel plans, solving problems at work or home. We all have the ability to imagine, channel inspiration… and create!

In sobriety, we eliminate substances that dampen our soul energy and now have the opportunity to explore the nooks and crannies of our human-ness, discovering parts of ourselves that can expand and light up the world.

You’ll come away from this offering filled with the love and calm of spending an afternoon in the company of like-minded folks, engaged in uplifting conversation, and the creative flow state.

The facilitator, Barb Burwell, is a former art educator, professional artist, and sober woman, who channels inspiration into her mixed media work, and wholeheartedly embraces her sobriety.

She’ll lead us through a creative process that you’ll be able to apply in all other aspects of your life.

    In this workshop you’ll:

    • Experience freedom in creativity through the expansive use of materials and prompts
    • Be part of an uplifting, authentic conversation about creativity as freedom of expression
    • Be inspired to take principles you learn into other parts of your life, bringing light and joy to our dark Portland winters

    Logistics:

    • Arrive anytime between 1:30 and 2pm to chat, have tea, and settle in
    • Workshop runs 2-5:30pm
    • All art supplies included
    • Tea included
    • Bring your own snacks, if desired
    • All participants are required to wear masks except when actively eating/drinking

All My Sober Girlfriends events are as much about community as they are about learning. You’ll have the opportunity to meet and connect with other growth-oriented sober women in the Portland area.

    About the Facilitator:

Barb Burwell works as curator of gathered information. She collects images, textures, and forms, both physically and in her mind’s eye. Her work as an artist includes painting, drawing, mixed media works on paper, wood panel, and canvas as well as sculpture. She also works as a fiber artist who employs fabrication techniques such as machine piecework, quilting, appliqué, and hand embroidery.

“Looking Out, Looking In” is her current body of work, which explores the idea of one’s internal and external landscapes and how specific locations connect to feelings of nostalgia. The work is a collection of metaphorical and visual perspectives that are a direct response to her experiences collected afield, by witnessing the landscape and experiencing the surroundings of the Pacific Northwest.

She draws much inspiration and nourishment from the outdoors and creates real works of art through long, contemplative walks. Burwell was awarded a BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (Portland, OR) and has worked and taught in both private and public art education. She currently works from her Portland, Oregon-based studio.
