Omission Bright Eyed IPA – Reduced Gluten, But Not Reduced Quality

We have a new brewery joining us! Another gem out of Waunakee, Wisconsin, Omission Brewing, joins us with one of their two non-alcoholic offerings. They are a standard high-octane brewery, but they have two different NA options for those people cooler than normal, like yours truly, and maybe even you, the reader! That’s exciting!

This week we are drinking Bright Eyed IPA from Omission Brewing. The brewery doesn’t offer much info as far as specifics, but given the name, I expect a session style IPA; something light, but still having a heavy hop presence. The bright green can tells me Omission may be way too happy about their beer, but the commitment to reduced gluten brewing techniques tells me we may not be friends.

How Does It Pour?

At first crack, the aroma of hops drizzles into the air. It’s light and subtle, but Omission Brewing promises a good time, so I won’t let the lack of overpowering aromas bring me down. The beer pours a light golden color, with pretty good clarity in the slimmest part of the glass, growing slightly cloudier as the glass widens. The head is crisp and white and releases more of the floral hop notes that tells me this will be a lighter experience than some classic IPAs.

How Does It Taste?

When this bright and hoppy IPA hits my sad and lonely mouth, Omission makes good on its promises. The beer holds firm to its hop subtlety, but no other flavors over power the hop-forward flavor. It’s light and crisp, reminiscent of a lager, but brewed closer to a session IPA. Omission did a good job of creating something great for summer and boats and the ability to drink an IPA and not feel full or lose all flavor for anything but hops. Bring on the chicken quesadillas and let’s get cracking!

Untappd gives Bright Eyed IPA from Omission Brewing a 3.1 out of 5, and for a light NA IPA, I’d say that’s pretty accurate. It’s not a bad beer by any means, but if you’re looking for heavy hops, seek alternative routes. I will say there’s something in the water in Wisconsin, though, because they make some excellent NA brews for you to choose and use while you sing the blues in new shoes.
