Are you feeling anxious over the upcoming elections? Does all this excess energy create the need to keep your hands busy? Looking at my nail-bitten cuticles, I, for one, need to throw myself into a project that doesn’t involve the news or any screen. And, although I would never consider myself an artist, I love to craft. And no one, I do mean no one, Pinterest fails quite as well as I do! (Especially if baking and cooking are involved, those are stories for another time.)
This is precisely why I decided to take on my first pattern out of my Women Who Rock Cross-Stitch Book and create my own personal Amy Winehouse Tribute. My home décor style is currently overly girlie, eclectic in nature, and honestly a bit too much. Anyone walking into my home for the first time will usually stop dead in their tracks near the front door and Joey Lawrence out a “WOAH.” I’ve got three different wild peel and stick wallpaper patterns stuck to the walls of the main living area in my oh-so-tiny two-bedroom apartment. It includes a sign that says, “It’s not hoarding if your stuff is cool.” and trust me when I tell you, my stuff is cool. At least to me, it is. My 27-year-old son, aka “the roommate”, may have different thoughts.
Women Who Rock Cross Stitch
From rock icons and soul pioneers to country crooners and pop divas, this stitch-able celebration of female powerhouses lets you create crafts that say WOMEN ROCK! Published back in 2018, this clever crafting book was created by Anna Fleiss and Lauren Mancuso. They believed that it was time to pay a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T to a group of women who have done so much more than rock.
Inside this square, hardbound book, you’ll find all of the how-to cross stitch basics, along with patterns upon patterns of a long line of women who rock favs. Curious who else you might find in here besides Amy Winehouse? I won’t list them all, but the ones I have flagged to create whenever I sit still long enough include Dolly Parton, Madonna, Missy Elliot, Lauryn Hill, Lady Gaga, and Stevie Nicks.
Not only that, but there are also patterns in the back of the book that includes the names of several women who rock anthems. The ones on my shortlist to create include “She works hard for the money,” “She Bop,” and “Run The World.” Whether you decide to make one of these and keep it for yourself or gift it away to a friend, this curated craft is easy to do and won’t break the bank for supplies.
