The popularity of Daybreaker Live, a virtual sober dance party is further proof that people in recovery are absolutely not boring.  Zero-proof people do lots of things. We still go to parties, concerts, happy hours, host Happy Every Hour, and now thanks to Daybreaker- we still go to raves!  However, instead of ending at sunrise, we start at sunrise.  It’s a poetic way to honor and celebrate our new lifestyle. Instead of sleeping away days after squandering away nights on booze and blackouts, we are now able to rise and shine bright!

Halloween is not the only time to strut your stuff in amazing costumes. You can dress up at sun up AND get your groove on all year round with Daybreaker

Daybreaker is a global morning dance community of 500,000+ members in 28 cities around the world that inspires humans to start their day unlike any other. Waking up and dancing in iconic spaces, SOBER, first thing in the morning. The virtual sober dance parties are themed and participants dress in crazy costumes to show their spirit.

Due to COVID, Daybreaker Live is now happening virtually. This allows even more people to join the sober dance party.  The events are about 2 hours and start with a warm-up yoga or guided movement session led by a variety of notable instructors. Then, they pick up the pace with an all-out celebration of dance and end with the Daybreaker theme song, while participants share photos of people they miss. Co-hosts musicians and DJs from across the globe make special appearances throughout to perform their most famous hits. Daybreakers affirm the global nature of the community by showing handmade signs displaying their home city, state, and country.

Dancing it out with a global crowd provides a natural high we love

Session 16, The Summer Sendoff included The Wailers and closing meditation with Haile Supreme, the Sultan of Sound. The Daybreaker LIVE // ¡Vamos a Bailar—Let’s Dance! Tribute to Hispanic Heritage Session 17 included Gloria Estefan and the Gypsy Kings. Session 18, the Spa-rty featured Icona Pop and Sofi Tukker.  We can’t wait to see who shows up on the next one. The organizers keep us guessing on upcoming themes. But, once you register, you will be sent login info along with a list of things needed to fully participate in the themed activities. Of course, this will give you all the deets on the dress code de jour so you can fit the part as you help spread joy across the globe.

AND there’s this: Science shows sober dance parties are actually healthy. Dancing together immerses us in the present moment, and activates brain pathways that produce and release feel-good, trust-boosting substances. The role that four neurochemicals Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins play in dancing together explains why a regular dose of dancing feels good and is good for you.

Founder and event host Radha Agrawal, ends Daybreaker Live events with a quote and a creative invitation to spread joy.

Daybreaker Live Events have become Club Q favorites

Dancing it out and connecting with people all over the world is a unique phenomenon. It has really made a difference during the days of shelter in place.  The inability to freely traverse the world can be soul-crushing for those who constantly crave the experience of immersing in a new culture. The organizers often bring in many different cultural influences. This makes participants feel like they are part of something bigger, even if it is only for a few hours a month. These are some of the many reasons Daybreaker events have quickly become Club Q (quarantine) favorites. (Check out our other Club Q favorites here)

Events are camera optional but seeing everyone’s dance moves is one of the best parts of Daybreaker Live events!

Discovering Daybreaker has been such an incredible gift. For sober people who love to dance, being in clubs can feel uncomfortable. The majority are filled with patrons experimenting with every mind-altering substance available. The trance-like, zombie state observed in so many dancing kings and queens seem to be the opposite of the fully present state people in recovery strive to maintain at all costs. Daybreaker events allow sober friends and families to dance in a community with like-minded people from all over the world. It is a natural high that we at the Sober Curator appreciate and have come to really look forward to each month.

The next FREE Daybreaker Live virtual sober dance party is Dec 19. RSVP for the Special Year End Celebration. Make it happen!

The next Daybreaker event is a Special Year-End FREE Celebration at 11 AM ET on December 19. If it’s anything like the last 3, you won’t want to miss it.  You can RSVP here.  One really amazing gift of sobriety is that you get to wake up feeling spectacular. You no longer lose hours upon hours of daylight recovering from the night before. Why not try amping it up with a morning dance party to start your day with energy and intention?  We’ll definitely be there because shaking it with the Daybreaker community really has become our new favorite healthy addiction.
