Early recovery for me was a bit of a war zone sometimes. When I drove up the driveway to the treatment center, I had a feeling come over me that I just knew this was my one shot at a new life. I entered treatment with the plan to accept all the opportunities given to me there (not always with a smile on my face or gratitude in my heart, LOL). I wanted a better life, and I was willing to work for it.
The naïve me didn’t know that not everyone in treatment is there for the same reason. I learned the hard way, but I am so very grateful for those who taught me about perseverance, and they became fuel to my recovery fire.
Not everyone will be your cheerleader in recovery, and that is ok. What matters is what we do with that information. I chose not to allow them to count me out or knock me down; I continued with my head down and my eye on the prize.
Fast forward, I’m here living this life full of joy and housecoats, and I hope they are too somewhere!
You are worth the fight too!
