Imagine a beautifully curated travel bar inspired by everything vintage, Barbie-esque, and designed for the modern sober explorer. That’s exactly what I found when I acquired the Barbie Travel Bar, meticulously curated by Kim Parsley, founder of The Happy Traveler Vintage Travel Bars. Combining nostalgia, pop culture, and functionality, this travel bar is not only a conversation starter but also a reminder that joy and creativity go hand-in-hand—whether you’re mixing up alcohol-free cocktails or simply enjoying sparkling water in style.

Meet the Artist and Curator Behind The Happy Traveler

Kim Parsley is a vintage enthusiast, talented curator, and artist living near Seattle, Washington. With an education in interior design and a career in interior architecture, Kim’s natural design skills have flowed seamlessly into her passion for collecting and curating retro treasures. Today, she specializes in vintage travel bars and barware, bringing mid-century charm to the modern cocktail (or mocktail) enthusiast.

Kim’s work doesn’t stop at curating one-of-a-kind travel bars. She’s also a prolific contributor to publications like The Sober Curator, where she shares reviews in the “Happy Every Hour” section, including non-alcoholic spirit reviews and exclusive alcohol-free cocktail recipes. Kim and her husband enjoy off-the-grid weekends hiking through the North Cascades or experimenting with zero-proof cocktail creations at their rustic cabin when she’s not in her studio.

Her artistic eye and her love for vintage design and the alcohol-free movement make Kim the perfect person to bring the Barbie Travel Bar to life.

How The Happy Traveler Vintage Bars Came To Life

The inspiration for Kim’s travel bars began from a practical problem paired with an appreciation for vintage class. While planning to become a “trail angel” (someone who provides food and supplies to tired hikers), Kim realized she needed a way to serve craft cocktails and zero-proof drinks to adventurers. It wasn’t just any setup she wanted—but one that embodied timeless elegance. That’s when she discovered vintage luggage—that iconic blend of retro functionality and beauty—with one flaw. It was designed with classic booze holders in mind but lacked space for proper tools, decanters, and glassware to create memorable drinks properly.

Determined to create a better solution, Kim designed her first bespoke travel bar—the Happy Traveler. Word quickly spread, and her curated vintage bars became highly sought after for their charm, functionality, and personalization.

Meeting Kim Parsley

I met Kim in February 2024 at Seattle Cocktail Week, and her vibrant booth caught my eye immediately. Amidst rows of expertly curated treasures, it was a treat to take in her vintage travel bar collections. Being alcohol-free for nearly 19 years, I often look for unique ways to elevate my own entertaining and mocktail experiences. Kim’s work spoke to me on a personal level. When I discovered she would also curate something special around any theme, I knew exactly what I wanted her to create.

Come on, Barbie, Let’s Go Party!

Growing up, Barbies weren’t a part of my childhood. But as an adult, I’ve embraced the iconic doll, collecting everything from Working Woman Barbie to Elton John Barbie, even Weird Barbie! When I saw Kim’s Barbie Travel Bar for the first time, it was clear this wasn’t just another Barbie accessory—it was the ultimate combination of playfulness, sophistication, and creativity.

What’s Inside the Barbie Travel Bar?

The Barbie Travel Bar doesn’t just look stunning—it’s fully functional and designed for fun, alcohol-free gatherings. Here’s what you can find inside the kit:

  • Vintage Space Needle Glass – A nod to our shared Seattle roots and a touch of retro Americana.
  • Vintage Silver Tray – Elegant and timeless, perfect for serving picture-perfect mocktails.
  • Vintage Kitty Tin – For storing small essentials or just adding a quirky flair.
  • Vintage Bottle – Retro charm meets functionality, suitable for housing syrups or mixers.
  • A Vintage Charlie Brown Very Funny Book – Unexpected, fun, and whimsical—always a conversation starter!
  • Two Vintage Glasses in a Timeless Case – Unique, elegant, and ready for shaping memorable moments.
  • A Jar of F*s** – Yes, you read that right. A little humor goes a long way, and this jar embodies Kim’s cheeky, playful approach to her curation.
  • A Vintage Cocktail Napkin – Made with real fabric! Do you remember the days when things weren’t disposable?

Plus, Kim customized the inside compartments using branding cues tied to The Sober Curator family. Think stylish details like our “Happy Every Hour” brand and slogans like “Because Drunk Never Looks Good.” These thoughtful details elevate the Barbie Travel Bar from a vintage collectible to a personal, one-of-a-kind keepsake.

The Happy Community of The Sober Curator

Kim’s work and passion extend beyond curating travel bars. She joined our team of contributors in the spring of 2024. Through her contributions to The Sober Curator, she inspires readers by showcasing the fun, flavor, and creativity of living alcohol-free. Her non-alcoholic spirit reviews and signature zero-proof cocktail recipes remind us that being sober doesn’t mean compromising on creativity or enjoyment.

Kim can customize a travel bar just for you if you love a personal touch. Her collections also make thoughtful gifts for sober friends or anyone who appreciates vintage artistry. Whether you’re an avid collector, a social media influencer looking for something unique, or just someone seeking a fun conversation starter, her travel bars bring personality and charm to any occasion.

Why You’ll Love Kim’s Creations

There’s something magical about combining artsy nostalgia with practicality. The Barbie Travel Bar captures everything I love about slowing down to enjoy curated moments—whether mixing up elaborate zero-proof concoctions or just sipping sparkling water in good company. Kim’s designs bring artistry to everyday rituals, transforming moments into lasting memories.

Whether shopping for a vintage-inspired wedding gift, treating yourself to a unique centerpiece for your home bar or simply exploring the playful elegance of a customized kit, the Happy Traveler collection has something to offer.

If you’re a fan of vintage travel bars, vibrant barware, or the alcohol-free lifestyle, I recommend checking out Kim’s work today. Trust me—it’s hard not to smile when you’ve got some Barbie magic on your shelf!

The Pink Lady (recipe by Lyre’s)

Looking for the perfect bevie to sip on while you re-watch the Barbie movie for the 20th time? Here is a recipe recommended by Kim Parsley. The Pink Lady cocktail looks best when vintage barware is by her side!

  • 60 ml Lyre’s Pink London Spirit
  • 30 ml cloudy apple juice
  • 15 ml pomegranate syrup
  • 30 ml egg whites
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until chilled. Strain into glass and enjoy.

Variation The Happy Traveler recommends: Fee Brothers Fee Foam instead of egg whites to give the drink body and a foamy top!
