The Daily Llama, by Staci DesRault, brings you short, one-word meditations and a corresponding quote plus a reflection for your complete wool-being (#seewhatwedidthere?) for Monday, January 24th – Friday, January 28th, 2022.

    MONDAY, JANUARY 24TH

    WORD OF THE DAY: KAIZEN

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“The largest room in the world is the room for improvement.” -Anonymous

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

Today we meditate on the value of self-improvement. Kaizen is a Japanese word meaning “good change,” and it is most often used in business to describe the process and the strategies for engaging in continual improvement. The act of improvement does not come from self-hate but self-love. We only change that which is no longer serving us or causing us pain, and we lean into the truth that change is a process, not a fixed destination.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Compliment Day and National Peanut Butter Day.

    TUESDAY, JANUARY 25TH

    WORD OF THE DAY: LOGICAL

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.” -Leonard Nimoy

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

The Logical Thing is not always the right thing because it may not take into account human emotions and values. Likewise, the Emotional Thing is not always the right thing because it may be prone to ignore reality. The Wise Thing acknowledges what is emotional and logical and finds a way to blend them together.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Opposite Day and Plan Your Vacation Day.

    WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26TH

    WORD OF THE DAY: MANIFEST

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“We become what we think about. Energy flows where attention goes.” – Rhonda Byrne

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

At times it may feel as though our thoughts run amok on their own, like feral cats. But we are the thinker of our thoughts. It is up to us to retrain the way we think. Our minds play such a powerful force in shaping our health and the quality of our lives that we cannot afford to neglect the care of our minds. How much time and energy do you devote to caring for the health of your mind?

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Green Juice Day, National Peanut Brittle Day, National Spouses Day, and Library Shelfie Day.

    THURSDAY, JANUARY 27TH

    WORD OF THE DAY: NEGOTIATE

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Never cut what you can untie.” – Joseph Joubert

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

The health of our relationships (whether romantic, friendship, or work-related) pivots on our ability to negotiate effectively. We cannot always get everything we ask from somebody, but we should also be wary of never getting what we need. Some of us may be too quick to get frustrated and give up when faced with conflict, either becoming too aggressive with our demands or passive with making requests. Where in the past have we “cut” when we could have “untied,” thereby keeping our relationship to someone else intact?

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Chocolate Cake Day.

    FRIDAY, JANUARY 28TH

    WORD OF THE DAY: OBSERVE

    QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“There are three kinds of [people]. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.” – Will Rogers

    MEDITATE ON THIS:

When we learn how to observe ourselves properly, we may find a way to avoid peeing on the electric fence and learn the hard way. Until then, call your sponsor therapist or another spiritual guide first.

The Daily Llama Fun Fact of the Day:

Today is National Gift of the Ladybug Day, which raises awareness for children living with critical illnesses. It is also National Blueberry Pancake Day, National Kazoo Day, and National Have Fun at Work Day.

THE CARD DIVO: Each week Actor, Comic, Host, Patient Leader, Spiritual Mentor, and Sober Curator Daniel G Garza AKA The Card Divo will bring us quick-hitting and intuitive horoscopes for sober people on the go.
