Hey Sober Squad — mark your calendars! 📅 On Wednesday, September 17 at 7 PM EST / 4 PM PT, our friends at Workit Health are hosting a free virtual event you’re going to want to catch. It’s called “Still Here: A Recovery Roundtable” and it’s streaming on Zoom and YouTube.
This isn’t your typical “panel discussion.” Think real talk about the many ways people heal — from harm reduction to 12-step, recovery apps to yoga. Five powerhouse voices from our community, plus a thoughtful moderator, all ready to go there.
Who’s at the Table?

Amy Dresner – Journalist, speaker, and author of My Fair Junkie. A recovering addict with a wicked sense of humor who writes fearlessly about addiction, recovery, and mental health.

David Manheim – Creator and host of The Dopey Podcast. If you know, you know — a top-rated show about addiction, recovery, and everything in between.

Erin Khar – Author of Strung Out and the “Ask Erin” advice column. She’s basically your compassionate but straight-shooting friend in your inbox.

Tracey Helton Mitchell – Author of The Big Fix: Hope After Heroin. Harm reduction icon who’s been walking the walk since 1998.

Sean Paul Mahoney – Writer, LGBTQ+ recovery trainer, and program manager for the Mental Health and Addiction Association of Oregon. In long-term recovery and changing lives in Portland.
Guiding the conversation is Max Backer, Host and Senior Manager of Community at Workit Health — someone who knows how to hold space and keep things human.
Why You Should Tune In
Because recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all — and the more we listen to each other’s stories, the stronger our community becomes. This is your chance to see, hear, and maybe even ask questions of some of the most authentic voices out there.
Workit Health is on a mission to transform what it means to recover — blending expert clinicians, innovators, and tech to meet people where they are. I love that they’re making events like this free and accessible.
So grab your favorite NA beverage, cozy up on the couch, and join us. I’ll be there in the virtual front row. 🙌

Why This Matters to Me
When I got sober, one of the first things I learned was that no two recovery stories look alike. That truth is why I started The Sober Curator in the first place — to celebrate the diversity of our paths and make it easier for people to find what speaks to them. Events like “Still Here” remind me how powerful it is when we show up for each other, share openly, and keep learning. I hope you’ll tune in with me. 💜
