Grüvi’s Non-Alcoholic Sangria is a refreshing twist on the classic Spanish favorite, balancing authenticity and creativity. This canned mocktail, a departure from Grüvi’s glass packaging for their dealcoholized wines, offers a zero-alcohol alternative without sacrificing the bold, fruity flavors that make sangria a popular choice.
During college, I could never understand the appeal of alcohol due to its taste and the effects it has had on my family. Beer, to me, tasted like bread and water. Most wines, especially red wines, had a taste that was too strong for me ever to find enjoyable. A sangria, however, beaconed to me. The fruity flavors made my taste buds dance. But the feeling of not being in control and mixing alcohol with anti-depressants meant we had to break up. However, since I ditched the booze, I have occasionally craved a sangria filled to the brim with fresh-cut fruit.
When I first discovered Grüvi, it was for one of our fashion showcases for Break Free, a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the stigma associated with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. Grüvi was one of our first mocktail partners, and when I first sampled their Rose and Dry Secco, I was an immediate fan. The sparkling dealcoholized wine was refreshing, fruity, and tart and helped to elevate our event in a way I hadn’t anticipated. When I heard Grüvi had a sangria, I knew I had to try it. But, I was cautious since so many de-alcoholized wines have disappointed me. Where the flavor is either too similar to Welch’s grape juice or tastes nothing like what was expected.
What greets you are vibrant notes of blood orange, red currant, and blueberry, complemented by a warm blend of cinnamon and clove. Together, these flavors create a balanced, slightly tart sweetness that’s neither overwhelming nor sugary, beautifully capturing the essence of sangria. Grüvi Sangria’s sparkling element is subtle but adds a playful effervescence, elevating it beyond other non-alcoholic options. My one critique is that when I open the sangria in the can form, it foams and bubbles everywhere, which causes quite a mess. Sober Curator Pro Tip: OPEN WITH CAUTION!
What do you mean by dealcoholized wine?
Grüvi’s unique de-alcoholization process starts with California red wine, which is carefully stripped of alcohol while retaining its depth and texture. Combined with natural flavors and fruit extracts, this approach brings complexity to each sip, giving it an authentic wine-like feel often missing from NA alternatives. The addition of carbonation makes it a refreshing drink that remains sophisticated and layered.
As a limited-edition release and part of Grüvi’s Discovery Series, this sangria has quickly earned accolades, including a Gold Medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. For anyone seeking an alcohol-free alternative that still feels like a treat, Grüvi’s NA Sangria is an outstanding choice, delivering a rich, authentic taste experience without alcohol.
