BrewDog has been in the beer game for longer than most of you have been sober. They have mastered alcoholic beer and with the growing need for options in the non-alcoholic world, they met a need before most of the non-alcoholic breweries we’ve come to love ever even existed! They have a solid foundational selection as well as seasonal and limited NA options all the time.
This week, we’re drinking Nanny State, BrewDog’s first non-alcoholic option they offered. Nanny State is BrewDog’s take on a classic pale ale, and being a brewery that originated in the UK, you can imagine how well they do this.
How Does It Pour?
The beer pours a perfect dark copper and is reminiscent of any number of English cask taps. The aromas are rich, and earth hops mixed with a nice balance of roasted malts. The head on this BrewDog classic is a perfect cream color, and though it dissipates quickly, the ideal amount of carbonation stays behind to tantalize your taste buds.
How Does It Taste?
BrewDog defines balance when this tall glass of water hits your mouth. It is a perfectly balanced pale ale, heaving lots of hops into your mouth, while still maintaining a mild balance that keeps it under the bar of pale ale and not an overly hoppy IPA. In addition, BrewDog uses those earthy hops I mentioned earlier, including Centennial, Cascade, and Simcoe hops.
Untappd gives this eager beaver from BrewDog a 2.7 out of 5, which was a real surprise because I would easily recommend this to any number of beer drinkers, whether they’re sober or not. It’s basic, sure, but in all of the right ways.
