Malicious Women Candle Co. Is A Company That Was Founded Out Of Deep Pain, But Has Since Flourished, Creating Deep Healing & Bringing Light Into The Lives Of Many

Malicious Women Candle Co. candles will draw you in with their witty slogans and comical phrases, but what’s at the core of these candles has so much more depth and weight. Whether you visit their store front in Snohomish, WA or check out them out online, Malicious Women Candle Co. candles will light you up and warm your soul.

How it all started

Lacie Marsh Carroll founded this company, infusing it with sass and snark after she was given the gift of desperation. Back in 2016, Lacie lost her dear friend Laura Caudle, who lost her battle with depression and took her own life. In her own words in the About section of the website, Lacie talks about what a fierce warrior Laura was and how hard it was for everyone involved during the time of this tragedy.

That isn’t the only tragedy that Lacie faced. While her heart was still breaking over the loss of her dear friend, Lacie’s father fell off of a ladder and suffered a severe brain injury. When it rains it pours, and the tragedies just kept on pouring in Lacie’s life. Her sister was hit by a farm truck on her motorcycle and her daughter, who was serving in the Navy at that time, was hospitalized. Lacie broke.

After a few weeks, Lacie’s husband and therapist both encouraged Lacie to seek help and find a hobby to keep her hands and her mind busy. Lacie decided she wanted to make a candle that she could light in honor of her friend Laura. Once she started pouring candles, it was if new life poured out of her. She couldn’t stop pouring candles.  She devoted her entire focus to learning how to pour candles, how to blend scents and testing hundreds of candles. If she wasn’t sleeping she was melting wax in a crock pot & pouring. She was determined to make the perfect candle to honor her friend.

Following her obsessive candle pouring, her therapist suggested she throw a party. She claims she had a full-blown meltdown at the suggestion. What in the actual F-word was there to celebrate? Embracing her rebellious side, she decided to host a shit show. It’s been candle making history ever since.

What’s in the name?

The name “Malicious Women” came from years of conversations with Laura. They would talk about their days and tell each other what they should have said in shitty situations if only they were a little more malicious. It was their running joke. The chandelier is for their mutual love of chandeliers. The last time Lacie saw Laura, they sang Sia’s “Chandelier” at the top of their lungs while driving on a sunny day. The type font on the labels honors Laura’s love of old typewriters and the written word. The snark…well that is for both of us.

Mission for a cause

Lacie has chosen the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention as a way to honor Laura and her battle. In her own words…”We need to help others affected by suicide and to fund programs to help them with grief and guilt. We need programs for families and friends” Lacie goes on to explain she didn’t even know there were programs out there that could help her. In fact, she didn’t even know she needed help. She felt so alone in my grief.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)

Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.

AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.  AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health by engaging in the following core strategies:

  • Funding scientific research
  • Educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention
  • Advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention
  • Supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide in our mission

Led by CEO Robert Gebbia and headquartered in New York, and with a public policy office in Washington, D.C., AFSP has local chapters in all 50 states with programs and events nationwide. AFSP celebrates 30 years of service to the suicide prevention movement. Learn more about AFSP in its latest Annual Report, and join the conversation on suicide prevention by following AFSP on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

Time to #ADDTOCART

Now that you know the backstory of this courageous candle maker, you can feel good about your #ADDTOCART activities. Sober Curator Pro Tip: Go in slow! They offer candles and so much more! Gift items from Malicious Women Candle Co. are perfect for just about anyone on your list. Whether you’re shopping for a birthday, sober anniversary, or even Valentine’s Day, you are sure to find a little something for everyone on your list.

If you’re located in the Western Washington State region, make sure to check out their retail locator for other locations besides their HQ in Snohomish. That being said, we recommend treating yourself for a mini-day trip and take a beautiful drive up to Snohomish on a clear and sunny winter day. Historic Downtown Snohomish is very quaint and you’re sure to seek out a few other treasures and antiques on this candle daytrip voyage. Sober Curator Pro Tip: We’re still in a pandemic! Be sure to check their website ahead of time to plan your day.

Shopping online?

You’re Already The Queen Of Damn Near Everything! Earn Crowns every time you shop! Make sure to sign up for their rewards program. You get points for shopping and points for referring friends. You’re going to want to take a deep dive into their site and find your favorites, but naturally we had to curate a few of our own favorites and try them out for you. We’re good at taking one for the candle team like that.

The candle of all candles: Sober AF

Sober AF Candle | Infused with “Rock Bottom & Gratitude” Scent: Espresso Yo Self

This is our fav, number #1 candle to gift to sober friends. After you’ve been through hell and back, it’s a lot easier to laugh in the face of the devil and tell him where to go. Sober Curator Pro Tip: BUY this one IN BULK!

Some people reach rock bottom and know they need help. According to Lacie’s son, he had to claw his way through hard pain to get to the underground spring of hope. Grab a cup of coffee with your sponsor and read her blog post: Please don’t do meth in our bathroom.
