The Sober Curator

Looking for a Fruity Holiday NA Beer? Mango Dragonfruit Fruited Sour by Untitled Art is Here!

It’s always a good time to get a new brew from Untitled Art. You know this brewery because they have been on The Sober Curator about a billion times with all their delicious NA offerings. (Click here to see the billion times) You also understand that these brews and Untitled Art come from the mystifying land of Waunakee, Wisconsin. It is a fantasy town that doesn’t exist because if it did, it would house a million breweries and a hundred million people (100 workers per brewery). I imagine they would also need a dragon slayer to fetch the dragon eggs they use in their beer.

This week we are drinking a Mango Dragonfruit Fruited Sour from Untitled Art. This brewery never ceases to amaze, but they are known to fall more on the sweet side regarding sugary ingredients (see their Chocolate Milk Stout review). Regardless, I expect a bright and colorful fruity beverage with a sour slap and a tongue tickle, so let’s see what’s in store.

Upon the first crack, you can get the dragonfruit’s sniff. I am more of a mango fan than dragonfruit, but that could be due to a lack of exposure. I also feel like dragonfruit would be red inside, but I may be wrong there. Untitled Art points out that I may be right by offering a very pink color when the brew hits the glass. The color is reminiscent of another Untitled Art brew (Watermelon Gose), but the aroma continues reigning with dragonfruit, but as the pink head begins to burst, you start to get those mango notes, as well.

When you bring this brew to your speech hole, you get a nice sweet and sour combo, but in the opposite order. Untitled Art throws the sour there right up front, and it is strong in the dragonfruit vibe, but the sour is a bit more subtle than the average sour brew if you ask me. The sweetness comes on the finish, and Untitled Art tickles the back of your throat with a little mango kick after the sour has resided. It does an excellent job of touching multiple notes and has a slightly heavier mouth feel than you would expect unless you observe its thickness and lack of filtration when you pour it.

Untappd gives Mango Dragonfruit Fruited Sour by Untitled Art a 3.9 out of 5, and I agree with that rating. It’s a good brew, especially if you like beers that have a sweet and fruity side. For those purists who like to stick to hops and barley, you may want to avoid this pink treasure.
