Happy Every Hour brings you the 411 on the Spirit of Tequila from Free Spirits. Made in the spirit of the great oak-y, vanilla-kissed Reposado Tequilas, the Spirit of Tequila will take your cocktail experience to new heights. It has quickly become one of my favorite alcohol-free spirits and even better, it won’t screw up your day count!
I can tell you that back in the day, if I was drinking Tequila, all the rules went out the door, all bets were off, and the party was very much on. And by on, I mean dancing on tables, getting high on cocaine, waking up on another person’s couch. Tequila and I had a great time (for the first hour or two), until we didn’t have a great time (in all the hours after the first two hours). The bottom line: Tequila and I never had a good relationship. When I learned about Free Spirits, I became interested. Of course, I was curious, but skeptical. Would I find it triggering? What would it taste like?
About Free Spirits
The Free Spirits Company is here to champion individualism. They are a brand for those who have the confidence to go their way and the wisdom to do what they know is best for their path. Free spirits refuse to be chained down by the expectations of others or by the societal norms set forth by any industry that works to influence how they live. Three cheers for that! And, they offer three amazing products: the Spirit of Tequila, the Spirit of Bourbon, and the Spirit of Gin. In this post, we are going to only talk about the Spirit of Tequila. (but be on the lookout for future posts and recipes of the other two products!)

The Spirit of Tequila
Made with margaritas in mind, the Spirit of Tequila is guaranteed to bring the heat to your favorite alcohol-free cocktail. With the same fiery, bold complexity as traditional tequila, the Spirit of Tequila offers a healthier, non-alcoholic alternative, crafted with all natural flavors and ingredients for a refreshing experience.
The Taste: An earthy, spicy nose brings your taste buds to life, followed by hints of charred oak and fresh lime. A smoky, agave-forward finish captures the authentic tequila experience – all the way down to the subtle golden hue.
What They Recommend: Mix 1:1 with your favorite cocktail, or experiment to find the perfect ratio for you. For inspiration, check out some of their favorite cocktail recipes here.
What I thought about the Spirit of Tequila
First of all, the bottle is gorgeous. I am a sucker for excellent packaging, labeling, and branding. All three of their products have excellent shelf appeal. Plus, they are heavy. They could double as a weapon, being heavy, and I’m not mad about it. With my brand new Cuisinart Snow Cone ice crushing machine, I was eager to get started on mixing up some margarita-inspired mocktails.
Lazy Sober Girl Mocktail Recipe #1 – Free Spirits Fanta-tastic!
That’s right, I’m lazy. The kitchen is not a room where I’m very gifted at using it. I’m lazy when it comes to mixing mocktails and making meals. Following directions in cookbooks and recipe books makes me impatient. I like quick and easy, no muss, no fuss. However, I do very much love complex mocktails and meals if someone else is preparing them and serving them to me.
INGREDIENTS:
- Crushed ice
- The Spirit of Tequila by Free Spirits
- Fanta Pineapple Flavor
- Maraschino Cherries
As you can see from my amateur TikTok video below, exactly 24 people liked it. I went for the free pour on this one. Crush the ice, scoop it into a margarita glass I thrifted from Value Village, and free-pour in the Spirit of Tequila. Top it off with Pineapple Fanta®, and add some Maraschino cherries. I’m obsessed with cherries or limes as garnishes because I’m basic. For example, my favorite flavor is vanilla; that’s how basic I am. All this being said, I found this DIY recipe to be delicious, and I love the smoky, agave-forward taste of the Spirit of Tequila paired with the pineapple flavor. I imagine if I had juiced my pineapple and added some smoked pineapple chunks onto a cocktail pick, it would have tasted even better, but who has time for all that? Not this girl.

Lazy Sober Girl Mocktail Recipe #2 – Free Spirits Peachy Clean!
INGREDIENTS:
- Crushed ice
- The Spirit of Tequila by Free Spirits
- All Natural Simply Peach Juice
- 2 Limes
- Large Sphere Ice Mold
I did some pre-prep with this one by using my large sphere ice mold trays ahead of time. In addition to filling the tray with filtered water, I also added one slice of lime in each sphere. I created this initially because I was working on another mocktail inspired by Iron Man that Nik Popkow of Tonix Mocktails had put together for our discussion on Sober Celebs at our Sober Pop Club on Clubhouse. You can read more about that one here.
Filling my large glass beer stein (also thrifted from Value Village and never once used for beer), I added two lime ice balls. Next, I poured in the crushed ice over the top of them to fill in all the extra spaces. In a shaker filled with ice (because I can’t get enough ice in my life), I mixed one jigger full of the Spirit of Tequila, free poured in the Simply Peach Juice, and squeezed in half of a fresh lime. Topping it off with a lime wheel for the garnish. Ta-Da! This Peachy Clean mocktail was quite tasty if I do say so myself.
