Sobriety in the City Events
This Dry January, let’s get see Oaxaca City sober.

This Dry January, let’s get see Oaxaca City sober.
Oaxaca is one of the world’s most celebrated cities (Travel + Leisure readers named it the world’s best in 2023), and also the mezcal capital of Mexico. For sober travelers, that combination is the problem: the food, culture and nightlife are extraordinary, but mezcal is offered at every turn.
Sober in Oaxaca solves that. We’re Amanda and Ginna, founders of Tomonotomo, a non-alcoholic agave spirit we distill in Oaxaca from tobalá and 15 local herbs and spices. Amanda spent years as a bartender before getting sober five years ago; Ginna still drinks occasionally. We live here, and we know how to enjoy this city clear-headed.
This five-day Dry January trip (Jan 14–18, 2027) takes a small group of 6 to 12 off the tourist trail: a full day in the agave fields with the families who grow it, a zero-proof cocktail class at our distillery, a cooking class with a local cook, hands-on time with Oaxacan artisans, and our sober bar crawl, which grew from 6 guests to nearly 30.
It’s timed for mid-January, when Dry January motivation dips, as a reset that proves sober travel can be the richest kind.
