Creative Kaleidoscope: Watercolor Curiosities – Jumping Spiders! 🕷️🎨

Our summer watercolor workshop featuring colorful jellyfish was such a hit that we knew we had to bring it back. This time, we’re giving it a wonderfully weird spooky twist.

And what better way to welcome October than with some tiny, fuzzy, surprisingly adorable spiders?

Watercolor Curiosities: Jumping Spiders

Big eyes. Fuzzy legs. Ridiculous little faces.

Jumping spiders may be tiny, but they have an astonishing amount of personality, and they’re even more fun to paint.

Join instructor Heather Roper for an evening of watercolor exploration as we turn simple shapes and bright washes of color into our own wonderfully strange little spiders.

We’ll play with water and pigment, layer vibrant colors, add those gloriously unruly hairs, and finish with the enormous, shiny eyes that give jumping spiders their irresistible charm.

Never painted with watercolor before? Come anyway.

This workshop is designed to be approachable, playful, and fun, with plenty of guidance along the way. You’ll learn watercolor techniques you can use again and leave with a colorful spider that is entirely your own.

Whether you think jumping spiders are adorable, fascinating, slightly terrifying, or some combination of all three, this is your chance to slow down, get creative, and discover just how much personality can fit on eight tiny legs.

No experience necessary. All materials provided.

Your Instructor: Heather Roper

Heather Roper is a watercolor artist based in Pittsburgh and a former language arts teacher. Originally from Western Pennsylvania, she spent a decade living in the U.S. Virgin Islands before returning to the region.

Her work transforms the ordinary into the quietly magical, often depicting anthropomorphic animals in small, tender rituals. She recently exhibited her work in a two-month solo show, Creature Comforts, at The Soft Spot in Garfield.

Come spend an October evening with us getting a little curious, a little colorful, and maybe even falling in love with a spider. 🕷️🎨
