Collective Arts Brewing out of Ontario, Canada has built its name not only on brewing but on blending creativity and craft. Known for collaborating with artists, Collective Arts Brewing delivers beers that are as visually striking as they are flavorful. Their lineup has long leaned on the bold and the balanced, giving drinkers an experience that connects both the pint glass and the playlist.
This week we are drinking Emerald Dark from Collective Arts Brewing. As a porter, expectations lean toward roasted richness, chocolatey comfort and coffee-kissed complexity. In the glass, Emerald Dark pours a deep brown capped with a tan head, while roasted and chocolate notes quickly sneak into the scent center. Everything about the look and aroma screams classic porter territory.
On the tongue holster, Emerald Dark from Collective Arts Brewing starts with a confident kick of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate — all three flavors popping up like a band hitting its opening chords. But just as quickly as they arrive, they fade, leaving behind a lighter finish than expected. The lingering coffee notes do hang around in the face hole a little longer, adding a touch of depth, but overall the beer plays its tune and then drops the mic before the encore.
Untappd gives Emerald Dark from Collective Arts Brewing a 3.3 out of 5. I’m going higher at 3.9 because it’s always welcome to see a true-to-style porter in the NA world, and this one delivers enough of the roasted, malty magic to make it worth revisiting. My thoughts are mine, though, so snag a can for yourself and see if Emerald Dark strikes the right chord in your taste tracks.
