TikTok and Recovery Videos are a trend that is here to stay. People have been sharing their stories of recovery, celebrating milestones, and even cheering on others on the path to recovery. Adding hashtags like #sober, #mentalhealthawareness, #soberlife, and #wesobernow, these users have taken to the airwaves of TikTok en mass, and in the process are destigmatizing sobriety.
Hey you gorgeous human! My name is Brooke. I am one of the Canadian Curators here at the Sober Curator. My goal is to bring you some fresh Canadian content and keep you in the loop about what is happening up north.
I have been obsessed with TikTok since August of 2016, which ironically is when I got sober. Back then it was called Music.ly and was pretty much just a bunch of 10-14-year-old kids lip-syncing to semi-popular songs. I was only there to make silly videos with my family once every three months until the pandemic hit. Then, I discovered that, in the depths of TikTok, there was an online community of recovering addicts and alcoholics. I started creating content more regularly and, in a short period of time, I was getting to know some of my favorite creators as guests on my podcast Seek Purpose.

Alexis is such an incredible human. She is an ambitious, sober mama from my province (BC Canada) who does incredible work for our local recovery community. Alexis is one of the founders of Recovery Kids, a non-profit organization that sets up free shops for parents that are in treatment over the holidays. She is also a public speaker, coach, Clubhouse boss, entrepreneur, and BFF with Tori Spelling. Jeff Laurin is a really great friend of my family and has been on an incredible journey that has brought him to his true calling of using TikTok to help people heal using his spiritual gifts. He is a trauma survivor and is now completely clean and sober for the first time in 30 years. Frances Stone is the founder of the Family/Mothers Recovery Society and is so very inspiring. She mixes her knowledge as a counselor with her experience as a person in long-term recovery to bring some very valuable content to the TikTok recovery space. Frances founded Mothers Recovery Society in 2018 and it is now helping mothers both locally and internationally by hosting weekly meetings, offering free education opportunities, financial support, opportunities for leadership, and peer to peer support. I have had so many incredible opportunities thanks to MRS and I am so excited to watch this community expand.
I have so so many great things to say about Sarah Benson. This girl is a Reiki Practitioner, EFT Coach, psychic medium, Sober, solo mom, and still has time to volunteer her time on the board of the Mothers Recovery Society. She has been such a light in my life and is such a gifted human. I can not get enough of her TikToks! They are raw, honest, hilarious, and embody Sarah perfectly. She has been 11 years sober and is such an inspiration to me. I just adore this human!

Nicholas Hennink is a Canadian Paramedic of the Year and Recording Artist who I had the pleasure of getting to interview. Nick and Sheena are such an incredible couple. They are all about giving back, not only to the recovery community but to a community of paramedics struggling with PTSD. I have some sad news.. They are not going to be Canadians much longer. Katie is another BC sober babe! I think I might be biased I have a lot of British Columbia accounts on here. Kaitie has a really unique and controversial recovery pathway that she shares openly on her social media. She is the founder of Sober Saturdayz and uses her platform to show that the party does not stop just because you are sober. Kaitie shares openly about dealing with ADHD and being a foster care system survivor as well as her journey with using magic mushrooms as a treatment for mental illness. She identifies as Cali-Sober which was a term made famous by Demi Lovato and is a form of harm reduction recovery.
