Every episode of Sober Dad Crew is a chance to sit down with someone who’s walked a unique path in sobriety, and this week I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Michael Valarelli.

Michael’s story starts in Florida, but really takes shape in Westchester, New York, where he grew up as a punk rock kid. Music wasn’t just a phase for him — it was a lifestyle, a lifeline, and a driving force that carried him through his teens and into his 30s, playing in bands and living the DIY spirit of punk.
These days, Michael has traded in late-night gigs for a different kind of heat. He’s the creator of Seeking Heat, a hot sauce–inspired brand that doesn’t just bring spice to the table — it tells stories. And like any true punk rocker, Michael wasn’t content with just making sauce. He launched Speaking Heat Live, a talk show where food, music, and conversation collide. It’s bold, it’s creative, and it’s all fueled by the same energy that once lit up basement shows and dive bar stages.
But underneath all of it, we kept coming back to the same thread: sobriety. Michael and I dug into the transformative journey of what it really means to build a new life without alcohol. For both of us, music and tattoos have been constant companions — reminders of where we’ve been and who we’ve become. His ink, like mine, tells stories of struggle, survival, and starting over.
What struck me most is how Michael has taken the rawness of punk and the intensity of addiction and channeled them into something creative, sustainable, and deeply personal. Sobriety isn’t just about quitting — it’s about creating. It’s about connection. And for Michael, it’s about turning up the heat in ways that actually matter.
If you’ve ever wondered how the chaos of punk rock can evolve into a life of purpose, flavor, and fire, this episode is for you.
