If you’ve been following The Sober Curator for a while, you already know we’re longtime fans of Pop Buchanan—artist, storyteller, and founder of the Sober Is Dope movement. What you might not know is that Pop is also a close, personal friend of mine, the kind of friend you meet online in the strange digital swirl of pandemic life and instantly recognize as a member of your soul tribe.
Pop has a way of turning lived experience into gospel—raw, rhythmic, deeply human gospel. And with his new single, “Daffodils and Moses,” he goes somewhere even deeper.
Produced by 6ix Pomona for Grand Echelon Music with executive vision by Nudgi-Nudge, this track is a spiritual ache, a meditation, and a love letter all at once. It also serves as the final single before the release of Pop’s highly anticipated album “God First,” dropping December 6.

A Memory That Became a Mission
“Daffodils and Moses” is rooted in one of the most pivotal days of Pop’s life—the last day he saw his father alive, back in September 1992. He was twelve, just walking home from school in Brooklyn, when he sensed that the world felt… off. The air, the sky, the rhythm of his neighborhood—everything carried a weight he couldn’t name yet.
When he reached his building, he saw his father sitting in his Lincoln Continental. No music playing. No usual vibe. Just stillness.
After a long, quiet moment, his father rolled down the window and said three words Pop would carry for the rest of his life:
“I love you.”
Those became his father’s final words. He passed later that night.
This is the heart of the record—not tragedy, but transformation. Not loss, but legacy.

The Poetry of Pain and Presence
The hook of the song reads like scripture set to soul:
“The daffodils made sense of it all, the scent of the roses,
the green on the lawn, the consciousness of Moses,
the spirit of the Lord, chord and percussions, the singing in the soul.”
Every word is loaded with symbolism:
- Daffodils and roses — the funeral flowers, the memory of standing by the cemetery, the visuals that stay with you long after the service ends.
- The consciousness of Moses — the Old Testament wisdom Pop clung to for understanding and comfort.
- The spirit of the Lord — the undeniable presence he felt as his father transitioned, a spiritual thread that has followed him into adulthood, artistry, and recovery.
This isn’t just a story about grief. It’s about the mysterious way love keeps speaking, even when the person who gave it is gone.
A Shared Tribute Across Generations
One of the most beautiful parts of this release? “Daffodils and Moses” doesn’t honor just one father. It honors three.
6ix Pomona and Nudgi Nudge—Pop’s collaborators on this record—both lost their fathers as well. Each man carried his own memories and ache into the studio. Together, they created something that feels less like a song and more like a sacred circle.
This track is what happens when artists channel grief into creation, and creation into healing.
Setting the Tone for “God First”
Musically, the song blends live instrumentation, warm soul textures, and the kind of heartfelt hip-hop storytelling that Pop Buchanan does better than anyone. It gives him space to revisit childhood trauma, spiritual signs, and the long, winding road to recovery.
As a sober person myself—and as someone who has shared many conversations with Pop about faith, resilience, and getting back up again—I can tell you this: “Daffodils and Moses” is the sound of a man putting God in the center of his story.
The upcoming album, “God First,” promises more of that reflection. It traces Pop’s early years in New York, the impact of losing his father, and the growth that followed through sobriety, creativity, and spiritual renewal. Trust me: this project is going to resonate with anyone who has ever loved deeply, lost deeply, or rebuilt their life from the ground up.

Final Thoughts
Pop Buchanan has always been a force—creative, spiritual, resilient. But “Daffodils and Moses” feels different. It feels like a reckoning and a release. A son honoring a father. A man honoring his journey. An artist honoring the light that survives loss.
And as someone lucky enough to call Pop a friend, I couldn’t be more proud to share his work with our sober community.
