Classy Problems is a daily post of thinking in motion by Dan T. Rogers. Each post stands alone as a thought-provoking piece, yet together, they create a puzzle of ideas. They invite you to see things from a different angle, rethink what you thought you knew, and explore what’s beyond your current understanding.
Classy isn’t just a read: it’s a practice. Read, listen, and join us for Classy Problems Live, a 15-minute, live virtual conversation held Monday through Thursday at 12:15p PT, where we gather to reflect on the Classy Problems post of the day. No need to prep. Just connect, explore, and reflect.

What We Learned in the Last Year
I used to think learning
was measured in breakthroughs.
It’s measured in discipline.
This last year,
we committed to creating
one artifact every day.
Nothing epic.
Nothing perfect.
Just one thing.
The compounding effect?
Closer to right.
Writing daily became a forcing function.
Capturing what we believed.
Operationalizing it.
Building skills we didn’t have a year ago.
Most days were ordinary.
But over 365 days,
ordinary compounded.
We stayed incremental on purpose.
Started where we were.
Committed to good enuf.
The result?
Better documentation.
Clearer voice.
Cleaner systems.
Not because we chased epic.
But because we captured and
put into practice what we believe to be true.
We’re not building Classy Problems
for a million clicks.
We’re building a repository
for the people who want to navigate
classy problems with more clarity.
For people who want to know
more about what we believe to be true.
If that’s two people, great.
If it’s more, also great.
Daily artifacts built more than content.
They developed us.
We’ve put together a list of how we capture our learning:
- Closer to Right: Every decision, every adjustment, every action moves us toward better alignment.
- Capture the Learning: What is captured, compounds. Captured learning becomes reusable. Sharable. Transferable.
- Focus on Awesome: Focus on the thing, item, or component that is awesome or that you want to be awesome.
- All We Have is A Beginning: The best work, the best ideas, the best versions of ourselves all come from continuously beginning again.
- Good Enuf: Effective when we use our previous experience or common sense when looking for good enough, not perfect.
- Growth and Development: Development is the qualitative advancement or refinement of a person or system.
- Knowledge and Understanding: When we apply information, we gain knowledge. When we translate information, we gain understanding.
- Step, Then Practice: Crawl. Walk. Run. That’s how we develop.
- Learn It Alone, Live It Together: Personal development isn’t separate from community. It’s the seed of it.
- The Range vs The Course: Practicing on the course where practice resembles the game is more effective than practicing on the range.
- Gratitude is a Verb: Gratitude is something we do. It is a willingness to develop. To contribute.
- Capture: Capturing is about actualizing an idea into something real and aligning its immediate reference with its future utility in the proper sequence.

What is a classy problem? A classy problem is when we’ve been afforded the opportunity to figure out what to do. Time to figure it out. Time to practice. Time to discern. When faced with the time to figure out a classy problem, it is more effective to focus on what NOT to do than trying to figure out what to do. In a word: restraint. JOIN US in exploring the distinction between what to do and what not to do in the pursuit of clarity.
