At Home in the Body: A Sober Yoga Night You Don’t Want to Miss | Yoga on Beacon

Here’s a Friday night plan that doesn’t involve a single drop of alcohol, a single awkward “no thanks,” or a single regret the next morning. Just your breath, your body, and a room full of people choosing presence over proof.

On Friday, March 6, my cousin Ariel Young and I are teaming up for At Home in the Body: Sober Yoga, a yin and restorative session focused on welcoming you back home to embodiment. We’ll be at Yoga on Beacon in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, a studio built on inclusivity and community where Ariel teaches regularly. And yes, there will be NA beverages. Because we’re The Sober Curator and hydration is kind of our thing.

About Ariel Young and Stellium PLLC

Ariel is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Certified Grief Counselor, and Registered Yoga Teacher who brings a rare combination of clinical expertise and embodied practice to everything she does. Through her practice, Stellium PLLC, she supports adults navigating grief, trauma, anxiety, and depression, weaving evidence-based care with mindfulness and movement.

Her approach is rooted in the belief that healing lives in the body, in breath, and in the tender work of becoming. She specializes in grief and loss, trauma and healing, LGBTQ+ support, and breathwork and meditation. In other words, she’s the real deal.

And she’s family and has always been incredibly supportive of my recovery journey. So you know I had to make this happen.

    What to Expect

This isn’t your typical “roll out a mat and hope for the best” situation. Ariel has designed a thoughtful, intentional evening that moves through several phases:

Arrival + Ambient Music to ground you and set the tone for a sober-positive space. Opening Circle + Check-In where you’ll share your name and a one-word intention (passing is always welcome). From there, you’ll move into Breath & Centering with diaphragmatic breathing and optional alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana). A Warm-Up with gentle mobility eases you into the Gentle Flow, a slow, choice-based vinyasa set to music.

Ready for more? The Invigorating Peak brings energizing movement with optional Kapalabhati breathwork. Then comes the wind-down with Restorative Postures and Savasana for deep rest and integration. The evening closes with a Closing Circle that bridges the embodiment experience into connection, with a hand-off to a social hour.

Every element is designed to be choice-based and accessible. You move at your pace. You breathe at your pace. You show up exactly as you are.

    Why This Matters

Look, we talk a lot about what we do now that we’re sober. We review the drinks, the shows, the books, the travel. But reconnecting with your own body? That’s the stuff that changes everything. For a lot of us in recovery, we spent years disconnected from ourselves. Numbing out was the whole point. Learning to come back home to your body, to actually feel what you feel without reaching for something to take the edge off, that’s its own kind of freedom.

This event is an invitation to do exactly that. In a room that gets it. On a Friday night. With really good NA drinks.

I’ll be there. Ariel will be leading. And we’d love for you to join us.
