Why December 31, 2023, is the Ultimate Sober Date: Embrace the Magic of 123123

As the year winds down and we prepare to step into a new one, it’s time to reflect on the power of change. If you’re considering sobriety, December 31, 2023, might just be the perfect date to start your journey. Now if you’re already sober or newly sober, please note I am not suggesting you get loaded (aka relapse) just to get this as your new date. Yes, I know it’s a brilliant idea, but let’s not get crazy people! Your recovery should be protected at all costs!

I simply want to point out to the sober curious people out there considering Dry January 2024, this could be the sign you’ve been looking for! The numerical sign! #seewhatididthere And, for those of you considering coming back in from a relapse, this really might be the sign you’ve been looking for. From my lived experience, people think about quitting long before they actually really need to do it. Maybe it’s time?

8 Reasons Why You Should Embrace December 31st as a sober date:

    1. Easy to Remember: With its unique sequence, 123123 is a date that’s hard to forget. It’s a simple pattern that’s easy to recall, making it a strong anchor for your sobriety journey. And if you end up in 12-step or peer support circles, that number will look rad on the sign-in sheet.
    2. Sequentially Sexy: There’s something fundamentally appealing about the neat order of 123123. It’s aesthetically pleasing and feels satisfying, making your sober date even more special.
    3. Symbolic Significance: The sequence 123123 signifies progression and growth, just like your journey to sobriety. It’s a gentle reminder of moving forward, one step at a time.
    4. New Year, New Beginnings: Starting your sobriety journey on the last day of the year means stepping into the new year with a fresh start. It’s a powerful way to kickstart your journey towards a healthier, happier you.
    5. Numerological Nudge: In numerology, the number 123 is a potent mix of attributes of number 1 (signifying new beginnings), number 2 (denoting balance), and number 3 (symbolizing creativity and optimism). It’s a positive combination that resonates beautifully with the path to sobriety.
    6. Unique and Personal: Lastly, having a sober date as distinctive as 123123 makes your commitment uniquely yours. It’s a date that stands out, much like your courageous decision to embrace sobriety. (Well, you and the other hundreds of thousands of people that I am sure will read this article and embrace the concept as their own.)
    7. Cool Tattoo: I mean, it’s a neat idea, right? I have a tattoo of my sobriety date and MANY people have asked me over the years what happens if I relapse. I always respond saying I cross it out and get a new one. A relapse will never make that date less significant to me. It’s also on my back, which is a symbol that it’s behind me. My recovery is always looking forwards. As it turns out, I do not regret the past, nor do I wish to shut the door on it. I’m moving on to entirely new, fresh mistakes that rest assured will be much classier problems than the ones from my drinking and drugging years.
    8. Dry January: It starts the very next day, so you can tell people you’re an early adopter to #Sober2024. Sober Curator Pro Tip: You can put the word DRY in front of LITERALLY any month of the year and “take the challenge.”

So, as we approach December 31, 2023, consider the magic of 123123. It’s more than just a date; it’s a symbol of your commitment to change, growth, and personal well-being. Embrace the journey to sobriety with this memorable date and let the power of 123123 guide you towards a better tomorrow!
