TASTING NOTES:

May the force be with you as you try this DRY Paloma. Drink the DRY Paloma you will. My bestie Erin and I spent a Saturday together trying out all of the DRY recipes. By the time we got to this recipe, we were at least 10 alcohol-free recipes into our tasting party.

Alysse (ME): “I really need to use the bathroom. Again.”

Erin (BESTIE): “I’m not a Paloma girl. The DRY Blood Orange Botanical Bubbly is good enough to stand on its own. I prefer drinking it that way.”

At The Sober Curator, we believe that celebrating is for everyone. I may have removed alcohol from my life, but I still drink liquids! Having options besides water, juice, or mainstream soda-pop is always appreciated. Plus, I still want to make drinking fun. Don’t you? You didn’t stop drinking alcohol to become a boring person, did you? Having fun with drinks is always accomplished at my house by using fun, vintage glasses. If thrift shopping was a sport, I could medal in it.

I quit drinking over 14 years ago. I don’t recall ever drinking an actual Paloma with alcohol in it. Plus, let me be clear, I never drank for the taste when I was drinking alcohol. All these years later, that’s different. I appreciate how my food and beverages taste. Quality, locally produced foods and products are what I crave. DRY was founded by a woman and is headquartered in the Pacific Northwest. Their products taste great and I get so support women in business and shopping locally. Sober Winning!

Ok, so I had to google “What is a Paloma?” Go ahead and judge. I wasn’t a classy drinker back in my days. I came across this … according to the wisdom of Wikipedia:

Paloma is a female given name, derived from Latin “palumbus” which means Dove; a symbol of Peace. The name also can be understood as The Holy Spirit symbolized in this bird.

Drinking DRY Paloma in a Star Wars Princess Leia vintage glass was clearly not an accident. May you RIP Carrie Fisher. You were an icon to me in so many ways. If you haven’t read Wishful Drinking, a memoir by Carrie Fisher, then I highly recommend it. This book is based on her hit stage production. I was fortunate to have seen Carrie Fisher years back when she performed at the Seattle Rep Theater, located at the base of the Space Needle. Never will I forget her saying these words… “Saying you are an alcoholic and an addict is like saying you are from Seattle and Washington. It’s the same damn thing!”

Until the next recipe, PEACE OUT, MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU and don’t drink…because drunk never looks good.
