I’ve been exploring the NA beverage category for about two years now. I’ve come across a few products that are sip-worthy on their own, but not many. I recently discovered Figlia’s Fiore, and I’m in LOVE!

About Figlia Non-Alcoholic Aperitivo, 001. Fiore

    • Produced in Utah
    • ABV: 0%
    • Added sugars: 0
    • Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks after opening. Shelf stable if unopened.

Tasting Notes: juicy berries with a hint of cloves, all living in harmony. Perfect for sipping as an aperitivo or mixing in a cocktail. A wonderful balance of flavors and not too sweet.

Let’s start with the name. Figlia is an Italian word that translates to “daughter” in English. The brand’s founder, Lily Geiger, has a deeply personal reason for creating this zero-proof beverage. At the age of 20, Lily lost her father to alcoholism. She also used that time to re-evaluate her drinking habits and became aware of the acceleration of those drinking alcohol around her. The non-alcoholic options she had access to seemed juvenile and demeaning. So she decided to create something in the same caliber as what everyone else was drinking, just without alcohol.

She began researching the food and beverage industry, and when she was ready with her product, she sought help creating her brand and developing her story. She had no investors when she started her company, launching an Instagram account (@drinkfiglia) and website (drinkfiglia.com).

Figlia’s first beverage is a non-alcoholic aperitivo with rose, bitter, orange, and clove notes. It’s a grown-up drink for celebrating grown-up occasions, and it’s called Fiore, which means “flower” in Italian. I first experienced Fiore in a glass with ice and the essence of an orange peel. It’s amazing! About the same time, I was sampling Three Spirits Livener, which fits in a similar category of botanicals. Livener had more sweetness to it (that’s due to the 7 grams of added sugar). In comparison, Fiore has zero added sugars. Fiore is the clear winner for its taste on its own, with tonic, or in a cocktail such as Roman Holiday, Sour Glower, Spice Girl, or Olive You (all as featured on their website).

Lily’s story of starting her company at a young age and with a purpose is powerful. She is also donating a portion of each bottle purchase to a non-profit called Partnership to End Addiction, whose mission is to change how we address addiction. In addition, she supports local New York City-based environmental organizations through 1% for the Planet. You are an inspiration with your sipping for good, Lily Geiger!
