Welcome to the Classy Problems weekly mash-up for Monday, January 27, 2025 – Sunday, February 2, 2025
Classy Problems is a daily post of thinking in motion by Dan T. Rogers. Each post stands alone as a thought-provoking piece, yet together, they create a puzzle of ideas. They invite you to see things from a different angle, rethink what you thought you knew, and explore what’s beyond your current understanding.

January 27 – The Story of You
The ‘story of you’ is a story of a person playing a role we assigned and an interaction we critiqued.
The story reflects what we think and how we feel about what actions should be taken.
Stories establish the direction of how we interact in our relationships. They are required to interact with others.
But the ‘story of you’ informs us more about ourselves than it does them.
Are you using your stories to critique interactions or learn about yourself?

January 28 – Paradox of Progress
Progress is transforming yesterday’s problem into tomorrow’s classy problem today.
How are the problems you’re solving today shaping your tomorrow?

January 29 – Living Moments
Moments can be divided into two types: survival moments and living moments.
Survival moments are when our biology and psychology are convinced we are in a life-and-death situation. Fortunately, these are surprisingly rare.
Living moments are everything else. The quantity of these moments is matched in the forms they come — everything from inconsequential to breathtaking.
Some living moments feel like a crisis, filled with complexity, strong emotions, and a lack of options, but these are still part of the set of living moments.
They challenge us to navigate through discomfort, leveraging what feels like life and death as an opportunity to engage with a classy problem.
How are you describing your living moments?

January 30 – The Weight of A Moment
A moment defies time — it’s not bound by duration but by its impact. Fleeting instances, like a heartbeat of realization or a life-altering decision, often carry more weight than hours, days, or even years.
The value of a moment often inversely correlates with its length. The shorter it is, the more significant it tends to feel.
Moments where time seems to stand still or rush by are profound not because of their duration but because they transcend it, leaving an indelible mark.
Are you noticing the moments where time fades but impact remains?

January 31 – The Artist’s Dilemma
The artist has the courage to see what’s possible AND the willingness to fail in the attempt.
Where are you willing to risk failure to explore what’s possible?

February 1 – Why and Why Not
Asking ‘Why?’ seeks clarity — it’s about examining purpose, the reason behind what we do. It aligns actions with intention, helping us move forward with focus and meaning.
Asking ‘Why not?’ challenges boundaries — it’s an invitation to explore, to push beyond hesitation, and see what’s possible, helping us to navigate the unknown with courage.
WHY establishes a foundation. WHY NOT opens doors to something new.
Together, they help us navigate the tension between intention and opportunity. They allow us to discern what matters most when leaving the known.
Why are you focusing on the known, why not consider something else?

February 2 – Splaces
One of our international demonstrations is to hold splaces.
A splaces is the intentional sequencing of holding SPACE to share in the story, a PLACE to capture the learning, and the SUPPORT to demonstrate intentionally.
Splaces are developmental-rich ecosystems that foster courage for action, provide capacity for more, and align competency for better.
Are you looking for a supportive place or splaces?

What is a classy problem?
A classy problem is when we’ve been afforded the opportunity to figure out what to do. When faced with classy problems, it is more effective to focus on what NOT to do than trying to figure out what to do. In a word – restraint. Join us in exploring the distinction between what to do and what not to do in the pursuit of clarity.
