Welcome to the Classy Problems weekly mash-up for Monday, March 3, 2025 – Sunday, March 9, 2025

Classy Problems is a daily post of thinking in motion by Dan T. Rogers. Each post stands alone as a thought-provoking piece, yet together, they create a puzzle of ideas. They invite you to see things from a different angle, rethink what you thought you knew, and explore what’s beyond your current understanding.

    The Value is the Thing

The thing is not the value.

    The value is the thing.

Do you value things or do your things have value?

    Better Than Before

We like to believe that progress is a straight line — each step taking us closer to some final version of success or done.

Real progress isn’t about reaching a perfect state. It’s about movement, alignment, and making what’s next better than what came before.

The classy problem is, we often chase the wrong kind of better.

We aim for more instead of meaningful.

We optimize for efficiency instead of effectiveness.

    We mistake certainty for clarity.

We pursue get rather than give.

We confuse competition for contribution — don’t confuse better than for better than before.

Being better than before isn’t about doing more, working harder, or following someone else’s formula for success. It’s about thinking differently and making choices that create better instead of busy.

That’s what better than before is — better words, better maps, better work, better games, and better filters. Not just doing things better but redefining what better even means.

What if you focused not on perfection, finished, or done, but just better than before?

PS … Busy, But Not Better? The Intentional Course is a response to that puzzle. It’s a splaces where we practice thinking differently to make choices that create better instead of busy.

    Stress Is Not The Problem

Stress is not the problem; it is always part of the answer.

All development of any kind begins with stress. Some form and quantity of stress are necessary to build capacity and develop competency. No process of building or developing results in less — always more.

Avoiding or minimizing stress, while often considered solutions, are oversimplifications and impractical. Such strategies, even if successful, would lead to an ever-decreasing life.

Where are you oversimplifying your development?

    Trade for an Experience

For too long, we’ve reduced work to a trade — a transaction of time for money, a function of productivity, an obligation to fulfill. But work was never meant to be just a trade.

Work is an experience — one that shapes how we think, how we connect, and how we contribute. Yet, we’ve been taught to treat work as something to endure rather than something to engage with meaningfully.

The old model, the traditional way of seeing work, needs an update.

Work isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about alignment.

Work isn’t just about productivity; it’s about contribution.

Work isn’t just a place; it’s a process of becoming.

We are here to redeem work — the word, the place, the way.

Because work isn’t what we do. It’s something we contribute.

Are you ready to stop trading work and start experiencing it?

    Classy Problems Black Crown

    Whose Goal?

It’s easy to confuse movement with direction — busyness with progress.

Urgency pulls at our attention, making everything feel important, but not everything deserves our focus. When we don’t intentionally choose where our effort goes, we end up playing by someone else’s priorities.

If we have no awareness to our attention, we are most likely on someone else’s intention.

The greatest gift we have is the gift of our attention. Where we place it determines the quality of the outcome.

Are you on your intention or someone else’s?

    “Bless Your Heart”

Some of us misunderstood that the phrase, “Bless your heart” really means, “Go F yourself.”

To avoid another misunderstanding, when we say PRECIOUS, we mean SELFISH — being terminally unique, having special snowflake syndrome. Precious is taking ourselves too seriously, focusing on what makes us different instead of acknowledging the sameness.

Sameness is the cake. Uniqueness is the icing on the cake.

Uniqueness is more accurately celebrated on the foundation of sameness.

Are you blessing your heart or celebrating your uniqueness?

    Percentage of Reality

Reality isn’t what we notice — it’s everything happening, whether we see it or not.

Our perception is based on our limited and time-delayed senses, which means we are incapable of perceiving 100% of reality.

The more reality we pull in, the better we are able to align with what is rather than pushing our preference in what we would like it to be.

By pulling in the largest percentage of reality, it widens our perception. It provides an opportunity to make better decisions, judgments, and engage more effectively with others.

The challenge isn’t reality itself — it’s our willingness to look at more of it, not just the parts that confirm our assumptions.

Are you seeing what’s there or what you prefer?

Classy Problems is a daily post of thinking in motion by Dan T. Rogers. Each post stands alone as a thought-provoking piece, yet together, they create a puzzle of ideas. They invite you to see things from a different angle, rethink what you thought you knew, and explore what’s beyond your current understanding.

What is a classy problem? A classy problem is when we’ve been afforded the opportunity to figure out what to do. Time to figure it out. Time to practice. Time to discern. When faced with the time to figure out a classy problem, it is more effective to focus on what NOT to do than trying to figure out what to do. In a word: restraint. JOIN US in exploring the distinction between what to do and what not to do in the pursuit of clarity.
